Re: RealityGamingAustralia.com OPENING NIGHT 18-19
What is the intent of this server? BigD presently runs two servers, and it's estimated that the Australian community has enough players nightly to run a full server and probably a 1/2 to 3/4 full server if the second server was seeded properly with players.
I don't understand the necessity of a third server unless it is going to be tangibly different to BigD, but if memory serves that's happened before anyway.
What's going to be special about Reality Gaming Australia that it's worth attempting to split the Aus PR community?

Re: RealityGamingAustralia.com OPENING NIGHT 18-19
IMO it would've been far cheaper for anyone banned off bigD to simply buy the $14.10 BF2 complete collection off steam, change their behaviour and alias, and simply start anew. That being said, best of luck to realitygamingaustralia, perhaps you guys can instill some true teamworkiness in players that visit your server
Edit: As a thought, I suggest you run a coop server for a while, as I know there are at least 10 bigD players that like to hit up coop servers and have to look overseas to find their fix. So you could start with coop, maybe introduce other factors too (like Australian Testing server for various maps etc).
Depends how good your hardware is and such. If you *partnered* with bigD admins, perhaps you could run their scrims and whatnot. IMO it's a preferable situation to paying $100-200 per month for your server and having it sit there doing SFA

Re: RealityGamingAustralia.com OPENING NIGHT 18-19
We wanted to start the server for a few reasons, one being we believe there isn't an Australian community that is souly based on teamwork. Sure bigD say's they are but from experience playing on their servers i haven't seen it. When we began this venture we knew it would take a while to take off and our main target is to attract new players to the mod and attract old players back. The only players that i have seen interested so far are the ones that have been banned from bigD and the ones that really want teamwork.
From talking to players that have been in the server they have said that they are over playing on the same server under the same rules. On our server we strive to be different to the same old join and do what you want servers. We want to have a server where people don't just run into combat get killed, give up and start again, losing valuable tickets and assets. Players are urged to wait for a medic to come heal you, communicate with other squads that also value your life as much as you do. One thing i wanted myself to bring into the picture is a squad dedicated to saving the lives of other squads. For example on muttrah being on the american side i want a squad that has one pilot and a medic with a few support infintry to get into the battle heal wounded players get them onto to a chopper and get them out of the hot hot zone so they can rearm an re think their stratergy. The same can be done on the MEC side with trans trucks.
Squad leaders are also urged to be on teamspeak in the correct channel for their team to communicate with eachother. Players with out a mic will not be able to squad lead because that only brings the teamwork in the squad and team down. We will be monitoring this and any squad leaders that aren't in teamspeak will be asked to show that they have a mic and if they do go on teamspeak. This is a basic rule on our server and once we have the players in it will be held up with a firm authority.
If you have any suguestions on what else we can do to induce more teamwork please sign up to our forums and post your thoughts. Thank you for your posts and i look forward to hearing and seeing you in our server and forums.

These figures are hopeful for RGA yes? Since BigD seem to have no interest seeding there second server.Truism wrote:What is the intent of this server? It's always positive when people are given options and choices. I'm sure nobody is trying to split up a community, but rather grow the Australian community as a whole and give people the choice to do what they want.

Why teamspeak instead of mumble?

With teamspeak its alot easier to moderate for me and i prefer it. i can also keep track of the squad leaders in the correct channels and im already paying for it. Mumble will be on the cards when i get more members playing on the server and showing interest untill then i want to stick with teamspeak.

Re: RealityGamingAustralia.com OPENING NIGHT 18-19
Just a reminder that RGA's opening weekend for the server is on tomorrow, we will be looking at starting to populate the server at around lunch time Australia time. I won't be present until night time as of work but the other boys will be there.
If your interested in helping us populate the server to test out our ruleset and to give the box a thorough test in peak time then you can still sign up to support us here Reality Gaming Australia. You are not required to signup, but it would be good.
Cheers Puddy

It's looking fairly promising so far many people have shown interest even though they havent signed up on our forums. Please don't be afraid to sign up the bigger the numbers the more members we will attract.

Re: RealityGamingAustralia.com OPENING NIGHT 18-19
Well today was ok we got a few players in. So far no complaints about the server all good feed back on how our server is by far the smoothest server to play on at the moment, but it still hasn't been fully tested. I have a feeling alot of people are scared of coming over to our server in fear of being black listed from the other australian server bigD. I really dont think they would do that and i think they want us to take off to be honest. So players that thought about playing on our server today i urge you to come play tomorrow and have a good time and test our server out fully.
I mean whats one night to put a brand new server though its paces seriously?

Re: RealityGamingAustralia.com OPENING NIGHT 18-19
Sell it to me - (I'm not saying me specifically, I don't even play anymore, I'm just saying for argument's sake..)
Why should a player click your server when the bigD one is populated? What does your server have going for it against the incumbent which has:
- A slew of admins
- An established playerbase (some regular players approaching 4-5 years on bigD)
- Several *reasonably* committed clans
- Reasonable server population each night
- Mumble + teamspeak channels
I say this only because you have to realize from a reg's or even a new player's perspective, which of the two options would you (being the player) choose? Gotta have a drawcard if you want to take market share from an established player.

Re: RealityGamingAustralia.com OPENING NIGHT 18-19
Well from what i have noticed so far our server is far more reliable and wont crash as often if at all when in the middle of a good game. Plus our server rules induce more teamwork and we know alot of players are looking for that. We have a fair outlook on those player that do choose to mess around from time to time to but with in certain limits. i.e when someone gets banned for such things as swearing they will be able to state their case and we will look at it from their point of veiw and know that they don't want to be banned for life because of an anger out burst. I also believe i have a better understanding of how the game should be played therfore players will learn from me and it will grow into a more intense battle on both sides. I'm not saying this is going to happen over night but i just want players that have the want for more realism to come fill our server and see what its all about and put it to the test. We don't want to steal players either we just want an even balance between playing on ours and theirs till we can get our plans kicked of to draw more new players in. We want to make the community big enough to fill 2 servers on a nightly basis and that will take some time. Plus the us taking some of the load might help bigD with their server issues which they are clearly having at the moment. Thanks for the reply.

Re: RealityGamingAustralia.com OPENING NIGHT 18-19
Better understanding of the game than 5+ year vets across a team of admins and community members? Careful, there - you might just be challenged to defend that call.
I have reservations about your choice, where I can't see why your time would not be better spent becoming part of the BigD admin team and influencing the existing community instead. Still, if you've the energy, then have fun giving it a crack- you've every right to try. Bringing more players into PR will help everybody who plays.
Nobody will be 'blacklisted' etc for playing on their choice of servers. LAWL. They only get blacklisted when they can't follow server rules, in place to encourage harmony and teamplay.
At the end of the day, I hope you do get a second server full each night. Probably best if we can avoid antagonising language between the communities though *checks post over*

Re: RealityGamingAustralia.com OPENING NIGHT 18-19
I would like to recap the events of the last week and our opening weekend.
To me and the admin team and I believe all of the players who attended our server the week leading upto and ofcourse the opening weekend itself thoroughly enjoyed themselves. During the week we had good showings of upwards of 2 dozen players in at 1 time or another, and the weekend produced half these numbers. Not sure why the weekend was seeded as low as it was, after the week leading upto the event almost everyone that wanted to mention anything on chat or voip they all enjoyed the stable server. Our server is as it stands now not overloaded and top of the line, however we are not even going to stay on this good server, we are moving to an even better box soon (hopefully within the next couple of weeks) in Sydney.
We've had a little criticism on our forums since the event. This was more of a put down that we have failed and need to pack up our boots, this will not be the case. We are already seeing promising signs of new players who are inadvertently using our server and our more than willing RGA clan members for new player training. This does indeed seem promising so combine 1 on 1 to 1 on 6 training with our yet to be released training guides we are indeed a little confident or enlarging the Aus PR community to fulfill the needs of 2 servers. Obviously as our server is yet to populate to a level that draws many players in, the majority of new players will move to another server but that is fine we know that eventually there will be a big enough surplus to spill over into ours, maybe 1 day.
The entire aim of holding the opening weekend was to fill the server up to test our box. Perhaps we will hold a similar event when we get the new box in Sydney and try again.
Thanks to everyone that attended, there will be rewards - check our forums for details.
Until the server is full (64 slots) I am going to continue to call RGA's server uber because it has yet failed to let us down.

Specs? I tried looking on your forums but I couldn't find a post about the specs anywhere. Our Aussie host is Molten Servers (http://site.moltenhosting.net.au/). I will post the specs of the new server in the server feedback section once we are on the new box.

I can only surmise that one of you (or your admins) works for or owns that company? I was interested in their $/slot and modability but there are only MC/CoD/etc servers, no BF/dedicated servers for sale from what I can see.Puddy wrote:Our Aussie host is Molten Servers (Molten-Servers). In any case, I'm very interested in the specs. Also, how have you managed to achieve the rock solid stability on your servers? Linux?
