Mortar Fire Mission Lasts 20 Secs :S
Hi, on my server when ever anyone uses mortars; no matter the map, the fire mission only lasts like 20 secs...
Is there any fix for this?

You need more then one person operating the mortars. SL to give missions, constantly, and rifleman.

The fire missions only last that long...but i think it's around 60 seconds...C0NNA wrote:Hi, on my server when ever anyone uses mortars; no matter the map, the fire mission only lasts like 20 secs...

Point is, that the mortars were constantly calculating and giving steel rain onto new positions, and i think that's why it was fixed, so from then on the SL had to give new requests each time.
(are you sure... 20 seconds?)

You didn't apply the server hotfix that was released after 0.95 that fixes this IIRC.

Re: Mortar Fire Mission Lasts 20 Secs :S
Does the firemission have to come via an icon on a map irl though? Are mortars unable to fire unless someone has put a shiny pin on their map? I dont see why getting a request for mortars over mumble or text chat doesn't serve as a firemission, or getting a marker from your SL when he's spotting.Hokkane wrote:Oh yeah! You're right! It seems like an unescessary hassle to have mortars require a firemission to function. It doesn't really serve any purpose as far as I can see. You can still make your own 1-man squad, sit on a mortar, give yourself firemissions and fire whereever the hell you want.
On the other hand it also means that mortar squads lose precious seconds when trying to zero in on a new target and the firemission disappear in the middle of adjusting. You then have to wait for a fire mission, wait for the mortar to activate, take time to finish aligning to the position, and then wait for the mortars to hit. At that point whatever was on the marker is now gone.

Re: Mortar Fire Mission Lasts 20 Secs :S
As Hokkane says, there is a very strict system IRL on using munitions where you cant see the target, perhaps the mission length can be altered to make it easier to use, however the mission request helps confirm the area you are attacking, makes it easier to give targets if you don't have inter-squad coms and means mortars cannot spam whenever they please.
Cuz you know what would happen if we didn't have the mission request people would be able to exploit mortars more easily.

It is a matter of teamwork, and not very much at that, to keep a fire mission active at all times.
The mortars will fire w/o a mission, but adjusting fire is more a matter of experience and luck that way.

U serious? Looks like you have never used the mortars. They CAN spam whenever they want. SL of mortar squad just have to constantly put firemissions anywhere.[R-DEV]Rudd wrote:means mortars cannot spam whenever they please.
Why not let the cas take off only if theres a laser target?

Why? CAS designates a lot of their own targets, but most crews in PR don't bother with this.Lugi wrote:U serious? Looks like you have never used the mortars. They CAN spam whenever they want. SL of mortar squad just have to constantly put firemissions anywhere.

The only advantage you'd have disabling fire missions is that one man could operate them constantly without putting the effort in. If you're more than one person, it's never an issue, and that's the way I think it's meant to be played. Play as a team and you'll be fine.

Re: Mortar Fire Mission Lasts 20 Secs :S
Thank you Lugi, I have used mortars ingame many times. Yes the Mortar SL can do that, however this small impediment helps keep it in check. If there is a dedicated mortar SL with an officer kit, at least there is hope the mortars are in reasonable hands.Lugi wrote:U serious? Looks like you have never used the mortars. I do not think there is a way to code the jets in that manner, if we gave them the same code as the mortars have then it would result in alot of crashing, thus we don't put the same constraints on. Also CAS IRL do have a certain amount of self targetting capability with their ROE set by their mission afaik.

There is way more effort in involved in reloading the tubes if you are one-manned.
Fire missions are 3 seconds and 2 clicks

it adds to it when you have to keep changing kits, making sure the officer kit doesn't disappear, and at the same time reloading the mortars, calculating the distance and being on target, on time. It's good that it requires so much effort if you're alone.CallousDisregard wrote:There is way more effort in involved in reloading the tubes if you are one-manned.

That's a waste of 3 second you could spend doing something actually helpful to your team.CallousDisregard wrote:Fire missions are 3 seconds and 2 clicks

Re: Mortar Fire Mission Lasts 20 Secs :S
1. Grab 1/3 of ammo bag.
2. Fire 1 mortar round.
3. Turn your mortar a bit.
4. Check the map if there's no friendlies in the area you're going to blast.
5. Confirm the target given by a friendly squadleader on mumble.
6. Apologise for the last teamkill with mortars.
7. Travel 10 meters in a logi.
8. Put an attack marker on the map.
9. Say hello to your fellow teammate who just joined your squad.
As you see, we have many options.

is that a trick question ?
Even with all the modern gear available it would take more that 3 sec to call in mortar fire IRL.
Sometimes you can pre-register targets for defense and bring mortar fire down with a 0sec delay but most times the SL needs mark the target but he doesn't really have anything better to do with that 3 seconds ( suggestions pending :lol

Ok, can anyone answer my question? What are the advantages of this firemission restriction?

Plus, it's more likely that it will go to an actual location rather than some random place.
Next thing you know you'll be asking why kits have restrictions....
(Though I do believe Rally Points should go back to the way they were..... just puttin that out there... >-> Back on topic now)
