[Request] Scandinavian/Norwegian statics

Post by pleym »

Hey, Im working on a map now Vadso City. Vadso is located in the northern Norway and will house the norwegian forces at home front in the future (brits as placeholder btw) facing the russians forces. I have managed to do some stuff alone, cloned some houses and signs to get more colors and stuff. But now have it stopped, because i need more stuff to make it even more european/scandinavian/norwegian. (Vadso City is released, but I still need statics for my up comming map)

What I need is:
Important:(all buildings need a deep foundation wall so it can be placed in steep slopes with out any problem)
- Modern apartments, with pitched roofs.
- Normal houses, with more than one room.
- Garages. work in by Psyrus
- Mini light house. work in progress by bessert

Less important:
- Airport statics (terminal, control tower)
- Vadso Church
- A new bridge model

Your asking for some quite complicated things there pleym, would start off asking for some of the simpler stuff like thous things that hang on power cables to stop birds flying into them to replace the sea buoys you currently have up there which are not good for performance when used in the way your currently using them etc ;)

Its actually to avoid planes/helicopters to crash. I don't know what they are called, just that its a common sight at power cables crossing water.

I need those complicated things, my life is complicated  lol

They are called "bird diverters" after a bit of googling and aircraft fly though the wires currently if you didn't know (although ye unrealistic, other than a fast jet sliced a power cable down some time ago when flying though one :p ).

And I'm not saying get rid of it, I'm saying replace the bouy which doesn't look quite right and is very high poly for that task and costs 2 draw calls for each one when it could be costing a lot less (epically if you grouped up a few together as one object) and would be something very simple for a first time modeller to make :)

May I ask what happened to the "Vadso City"-thread?

I'm working on a big bunch of rural and semi-rural static objects and custom textures for the finnish faction. (that's why there has been very little progress on Rajantie -map) Those can be of course used in any scandinavian or western/ northern european map.

Might do some of those norwegian houses and apartments for divercity and maybe that other stuff too for the heck of it. :D

BTW, do you think every building and house should be enterable? Of the ones I've made about half are enterable and other half is only the "shelf"

This seems like a pretty cool idea. I'll see if I can find 3ds max 9 and try my hand at some building tutorials (maybe rhino's shed one) after the LOD stuff. Heck maybe we can even make a big thread/database with all comfac/dev static requests that budding community members can use to test their modeling/texturing/importing skills and then profit!!!! Heh got a bit carried away there, but since I can't play anymore I'm totally jonesin' for PR or anything related to it [it's been 4 months mannnn!!!].

Two weeks and I will start my first garage model ^_^ [or a simply airport static I can find to add ambience to all airports].

Excellent Psyrus, the PR community needs more people like you.

and you also splatters, would love to see some Norwegian style buildings from you. I would actually prefer it if not all were enter able. this does wonders with performance apparently.

it is as Pleym said to prevent helicopters and small planes to crash into the wires ;)

You mean in real life? We put them up there mainly to stop swans crashing into them as they can really damage swans and each time they do, they bring the power off-line too..

In Norway we put them on our largest powerlines and big spans to alert pilots where the cable hang (can be quite hard to see from the air)

Are there texture pallets for Nor faction statics?

Your best off using existing palettes in PR/vBF2 unless your making a large set of new statics which will all use the new palette(s) you make.

What are you thinking of making?

i've got an unfinished air control tower (enterable) if you want it. The model is basically done and i started to texture it but got bored and left it. Here is a pic:

One month ago, I began to model with 3ds Max and I think that I can do some houses.
Only, two questions.

1) Which 3ds Max can I use? Can I use the 2010?

2) Do I have to texture the model? Really, I don?t know texture models i am noob in this world so.... I can do houses,cars.... but texture...no :D
sorry for my bad english
