Hi,
Im fixing a friends computer and the motherboard has died.
So I bought an after market Motherboard but its all compatible with everything else.
Ive plugged everything in and when I come across the front panel connectors for the power, power led, reset switch etc.. the sockets is different from the old motherboard. (its a 13 socket and new motherboard is only 9 socket) So I took all the wires out of the black casing and im just going to clip them onto the motherboard but im unsure what each wire is, its not labeld on each wire and I cant find a manual online for the old motherboard or case.
The Computer is a Acer Aspire M1640
And the colours of each wire is:
1. Blue & White
2. Green & Orange
3. Red & White
4. Green & White
I can provide pictures if this will make more sense to what im trying to get at.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I'm not really sure if it matters where you plug each one in. When I moved a PC to a new case recently I pretty much plugged in the front panel connectors in randomly and everything works fine.
Some motherboards have color coding on the header, but if it doesn't then there's no way to know where each color is supposed to go anyway.

Hmmm, I did some researching and some people was saying that if you plugged them in the wrong pin, it can blow motherboard up and other parts connected to it
??:
Its puzzled me anyway.

Trace the wires back to their origin to determine what they are. Then plug in as per the mobo manual. If the LEDs don't work then just switch the cables over as they are the only one's that really require correct polarity.

Didnt think it was going to be that easy, actualy taking the front panel of. But they just clip on and off.
Cheers, problem solved. Comp now runs sweet.
