Sound normalization

It would be nice to have some type of volume normalization. I simply cant keep my volume up in levels so that I hear footsteps and the other nice things, because the .50 cal shakes my whole house and pierces my eardrums.

I understand that weapon sounds will take out your hearing in real life but thats not what we want while we play a game right? It'd be nice to comfortably enjoy the full sound spectrum.

This is project REALITY right? If you have Windows 7, just turn down the game

For me, the sounds increase IMMERSION, something not many games offer.

Yeah they increase immersion when you can hear the distant battles etc that's why I'm suggesting this. When you have to turn down the volume to save your ears and neighbours from some loud sounds that dont fit the mix, its less immersion.

Just turn it down. In real life, you'd likely be able to wear earplugs as well, especially when operating a .50 cal.

You can increase the volume when sneaking around, just like you'd not wear earplugs then in real life.

The only sounds that I think need some adjusting are the radio messages. They're a bit too loud, they make it hard to hear people on VOIP/Mumble, and hurt immersion. In real life we'd be able to turn the radio down or even shut it off completely, sadly we don't have that option in PR.

^ you can do that mojo, audio, voice over volume down, it won't affect VOIP (thats controlled by the transmit and receive volumes)

I turned mine down to about 20% due to spammage.

Oh shit really? LOL

I always assumed that was the VOIP volume, so I always kept it cranked to 100%. No wonder the radio bothers me. Doh!

I probably got a ringing in my hears thanks to playing PR with headphones at to high volume. Since I noticed this I've turned it down to 8% ingame effects and 4% radio. VOIP is somewhere at 30% I dont care for footsteps anymore. Just dont make me deaf every time I'm in a truck or something :P Its my own fault for playing with the sound to high. Never hurt my ears tho...

Same probably happened to me too since I got tinnitus some weeks after 0.9 released and I started playing PR again. Good temporary fix is getting a Creative X-Fi card and using SVM. I can hear footsteps while the .50 cal still sounds reasonable. Better than playing in silence.

now that we're at it: increased shuffling of gear would really add to the immersive, infact I found this simple sound add-on even made the call of duty series really immersive! :p

on-topic though: I also heavy problems with fine-tuning soundsettings as to have the best balance between detail and earcomfort. cranking up the volume makes you notice a lot more immersive sounds, however firefights are just deafening. I have the same thing with fh2, one time on pointe du hoc I had my neighbours screaming in complaint to the constant (and loud!) fire the mg42('s) provided. :p

AAVP and Bradleys, i swear those are louder than any gun even the jdam

You think PR's dynamic range is too extreme? There's some Arma mods that make PR sound like you're in an isolation booth tbh :lol:

I see your point, however. Personally, I always adjust my volume to where 1p gunshots are loud, but not too loud. The dynamic range of PR works out well for me when doing this. You shouldn't hear footsteps unless they are damn close to you, depends on the surface though. Running sounds are a good bit louder and they can usually be heard easily even at lower volumes.

Yeah, PR's range is alright. Keep the volume down and train your ears to hear the footsteps even then instead of turning it up, blowing your eardrums out and then complaining about not hearing the footsteps :P

The range is good as it is. Gunshots need to be way louder than other sounds. Now if we would only get the explosions sound more loud and, well, explosive than they are now I'd be a very happy man! :mrgreen:

i use beats headphones and they really boost the range, but i play at a sound were the gunshots are louder than the voip, which i think is somewhat realistic, because if your in a heavy firefight say in a building you wont be able to hear much of what your buddy over the radio is saying

I think the sound intensity is a little off. I was playing on Wanda Sham and tanks that are miles away sound like they are on top of me, literally. It was the same sound as standing next to one in the base. It throws me off so much.
