Windows - Limit output audio volume

Post by AfterDune »

Let me explain the situation a bit. I often connect my laptop to my tv to watch a movie - bigger screen, better sound.
The speech is all normal volume, but when something exciting happens (explosions, gunfire, racing cars, etc.), the volume is much louder. I then have to turn down the volume, 'cause I don't want to disturb my neighbours, but turn it up again when the action is over and there's just speech again.

I'm using VLC media player. It features a lot, but I've never seen a plugin or something that can lower the volume if volume is above a certain level.

If there's a plugin, or software that can do it, that would be nice :) .

Check inside your sound settings within control panel

Control panel > Sound
Then right click and go to properties and go to the enhancement tab(if there is one). In here you may be able to find something called "loudness equalisation". Tick that and away you go =]
(I think :P )

Divx coded with surround sound?
Then your TV set will act as the side speakers, and speech will be sent through your non-excisting center speaker. If there is a quick fix for this within VLC/plugin im interested in this as well.
If it's a DVD just set your audio output to 2.0.

Maybe your television also has a 'virtual surround' feature that might help equalize(?).

I enabled what Pedz said and I *think* it works fine now, but I haven't watched a lot of movies on my tv since then :D . But the ones I did watch, I didn't have to change the volumes anymore, which was quite enjoyable.

Tis True. This would help more as you can set your audio to 5.1 quad 2.0 ect. ;)
