So true! That's why i still prefer intel.
They just don't get slower over time.

Just to add the I7 26000k can easy to 4ghz on air and 4.5ghz with the H70. If your doing modeling and mapping then overclocking is a option. Have a look at the overclockers.co.uk forum and you will see alot of info on the OCZ and how its slows down very quickly in a short time. Cheap and fast but not for long.

I use a Intel 80gb SSD and its still as fast as the day i bought it 16 months ago.

In that topic you've linked to everyone in there is talking about the old OCZ drives, not about the new one.

I've been reading up on a few reviews of this drive and most of them are saying that it looks to not slow down much over time like the old ones: OCZ Agility 3 240GB SSD Review - Post Testing ATTO

Although one thing many of the reviews have brought up is that while this drive dose excellent with simple and average tasks, doing really advanced stuff (like what I'm getting it for) it seems to fall down a bit compared to the Vertex 3 and other drives although they cost a lot more for the same speeds.

I'm slightly tempted in getting the Vertex 3 instead as in many of the reviews it saying it can perform better under pressure but I'm not sure if its really worth the extra ?40..., even thou it comes with a 2.5" to 3.5" drive bay converter

But watch out with your selected SSD. It might be a fail drive:

(there is a huge problem with SSD drives from various manufacturers using the Sandforce SF-2200 controller!)

No, it's embedded in the OS, but only Vista and Windows 7.

Edit: Also make sure you set your harddrives to AHCI mode (rather than IDE) in the BIOS for TRIM to operate. You do this just before you install your OS on your SSD.

I have had mine since the 28/05/2011, well that was the delivery date, So lets say I have had it installed on the 01/06/2011. So about a month.
And yes I did run it in TRIM.

Thanks for the heads up on the corsair force series 3 Rhino and Terror, I would of wasted my money twice on a SSD.

Speaking of failing parts...

I would recommend sticking with Corsair RAM. They have a lifetime warranty. I've had to replace a couple modules and it was pretty easy. Mailed them in with RMA and got new ones in the mail in about 2 weeks.

Alson what's wrong with that statement (according to another guy on that site I got that quote from) is that Vista dose not support TRIM if you really want to point out all the faults....

Also this review shows even really poor results for the Vertex 3 which I was thinking of getting instead of the Agility 3 which in some reviews said was better, but appears not so...

Like I always said, go for Intel 320 Series. Very reliable, 5 years warranty and it don't get slower over time or when it's almost full.

As usual, you can choose 2: cheap, fast and high quality.


Intel has been a really solid SSD performer, I haven't taken a strong look at the 320 series but it's worth a more research.

You should note that Vertex 3 MAX IOPs is different from Vertex 3 (They use different die size NAND controllers). This is the review you should be looking at for regular vertex 3 - AnandTech - The OCZ Vertex 3 Review (120GB)


After doing a bunch more research, I think this is the answer to your question Rhino: There are no fast drives at a good price. Drive slowdown over time is limited with the reliable names (Intel, Crucial), but any drive under 256 GB loses data speed pretty linearly with drive size (i.e. the 128 GB drives are 50% slower), and they're all expensive as ****.

What would you all suggest is the best SSD, value for money wise? No budget limit but the cheaper the better and not really looking for anything that is going to deteriorate over time.

Would like as many people to chip in here with what they think is best, even if its been suggested

All though half of me is going for the intel 320 series, just doing abit more research on it first though.
