New custom build PC

Post by Pedz »

Right so my new rig is hopefully going to be epic ^^. My target price was ?1500, but as always with these things, it went a tad over.. ended up just over ?1700

Case: NZXT Phantom (with all fans, had to buy the 230mm, 140mm and extra 200m)
NZXT Phantom White

CPU: I7-2600k
Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Sandy Bridge) Socket LGA1155 - Retail.

CPU Cooler: Noctua C14
Scan.co.uk: Noctua NH-C14 Top-Flow Flexible CPU Cooler with 140mm fan

Motherboard: MSI P67-GD65
MSI P67A-GD65 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) Motherboard - B3 Revision

RAM:
G.Skill Ripjaws-X CAS7-8-7-24 2T 1600Mhz
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prod ... 8gbxh.html

GPU's: 2x 570 SLI Gainward "Golden Sample" GLH
Gainward GeForce GTX 570 inchGolden Sampleinch GLH 1280MB GDDR5 PCI Express - Retail

HDD:2x Western Digital Caviar black 500GB (will be in raid 0)
Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 32MB Cache Hard Disk Drive SATA 6 Gb/s 126MB/s <4.2ms 7200rpm - OEM

PSU: 1200W Corsair (I know epic overkill, but better to be safe than sorry ^^)
Scan.co.uk: Corsair CMPSU-1200AXUK Professional Series Gold AX1200 1200W Modular Power Supply (PSU)

OS: Win7 Pro 64bit

Now am I being silly and forgetting anything important? I already have a lot of CD drives, and all the other normal peripherals, mouse, keyboard etc.

Edit/Update: Fully built fully operational, easily overclockable to 4.5Ghz under safe voltages ^^. Although atm I've kept it stock as there's no need, nothing is using the CPU that much.

That PSU is overkill, I would have gotten a 800-900 watt unit and get 8 GB of RAM. However, everything else seems nice and 1337. Nice build.

Ah yes I did end up getting 8GB (copied wrong link :P ) And yes the PSU is overkill, however I found it hard to find a high quality 900W psu with 90% efficiency which the AX series by corsair gives and was also unsure how 850W would cope with the OC'd gpus and CPU/RAM. So thought better to be on the safe side ^^.

Anyway, heres some pics :P

Removed the push fan on the Noctua C14 as it would not fit with the 230mm fan on the side as well(also would be useless if it did fit, as the gap would be small between the two fans :P .

Also used to have a X-fi Titanium fatality plugged into the top PCI-E x1 (hence the missing dustguard), but found it was worse than the onboard soundcard because it caused so many problems with games, programs(mainly mumble.. had awful quality, made people sound robotic and lots of 'noise', no matter what I did..). So yes the MSI onboard soundcard (realtek i think?) beats creatives efforts....

Next item on the list... Samsung s27a950 27" LED 3D monitor =], looks lovely, and well i wouldn't mind stressing my GPUS with some 3D PR ^^(if that's at all possible..)

Pedz, you bloody *******, where do you getting money for this? I like view the custom built PC's, because everyone is nearly completely unique with the lights and so on, so post more pics of things like that and specs of course so we, poor and simple people can dream a bit. :-D

:P Working overtime payed for most of it ^^, and all the specs are up at the top, but to list them simply

CPU: I7-2600k @ 4.3Ghz
RAM: 8GB 1600Mhz G.Skill Ripjaws-X
HDD: 2x WD Caviar black 500GB
GPUs: 2x Gainward GLH 570GTX factory OC'd to 800MHZ(from 732)
PSU 1200W Corsair

I do plan on buying some more LED's to brighten up the side 2x120mm fan slot, and the front...

RE: buying some more LED's

I leave you with the wise words of Jay-Z, ""I'm young enough to know the right car to buy. Yet grown enough not to put rims on it"

Build looks nice, thumbs up.
Did you RAID the drives?

Haha i like the above quote :P , I may leave it for a few days, let it settle over in my head ^^, and yeah the drives are in RAID 0, because I care little for whats on them :P , all the important stuff is backed up on an external (as I had to move it from my old pc to the new)

I finally bought a new monitor (the 23" dell needed an upgrade :P ). So I bought the Samsung s27a950, and after a lot of trouble with delivery of the damn thing, it arrived =]. One thing I should have done is measure up... Speakers are on their side under each monitor as thats the only place they fit =[.
