PR not running well, help

Post by Rapid12 »

My system is old but I still managed to enjoy PR over a year ago on the same system.

I stopped playing PR because my PC crashed and needed flattening, and I never got around to reinstalling until now.

Unfortunately, even though the system is the same, the game is very choppy/laggy and, probably unconnected, the game (and BF2) is not remembering my alternate controls (prone & crouch) and have to reprogramme every time I start the game.

My system

Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.4GHz
2.41 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 256MB

Is it a new system time?

To do with your controls,
Close PR/BF2
Go to:
My Documents / Battlefield2 / Profiles and delete 001 folder
Then open PR again and you will have to retrieve your profile account again, once you have done that go and set your controls again and GL.

And ye you could do with an upgrade mate.

What else do you have in your set up?
you could just upgrade things.

Thanks for replying, Mike. Not entirely sure what you mean by what else I have in my set-up? Do you mean like Mobo make and model? Same for hard drive Ram?

I've had my set-up since the days of Black Hawk Down & Joint Operations, so what's that? 2004? I got it built by a mate, all parts came from scan.co.uk.

Yes, he is asking for specific brand and models of your components, this can help analyze and see where the most immediate bottleneck is and which alternatives might help.

Is your controls issue fixed?

As for choppyness:
Make sure you have the latest drivers for your parts (get them from each manufacturer - windows default ones are usually not very well optimized).

And of course lowering settings might help to.

Yeah the control thing is good now, thanks.

The MOBO is an old Abit IC7, their site is terrible to navigate and it appears to be left in 2008 (have they gone tits up?) My system had to be flattened so I can only assume the drivers are up to date for the mobo, but I wouldn't know where to start to find out for sure.

I've downloaded and installed the latest driver for the ATI radeon 9600, despite windows warning me not to install it.

Anyone want to swap a good gaming PC for a real rifle (rapid12)? :(
