"In the area"

Post by charcoaldabs »

A quick search didn't turn things up for me, and the manual still confuses me. I must be missing something obvious.
Insurgents and other irregular forces (except for the militia) do not have access
to the UAV. They can gain some intelligence on enemy troop movement by
sending out informants. This is simply done by placing waypoints at the
locations where you want the informants to head to. About 5 minutes after
placing a waypoint the informant will be on location and report if there are
multiple enemies in his area (6 or more). The reports take about 30 to 60
seconds to reach the commander and can be used to determine where the
opposition is approaching from.

July 12, 2011 --- Project Reality 0.96 Manual --- 42
I have always been a little unclear about how to use insurgent waypoints for intel.

So let's see if I have this straight on the timeline.
  • INS CO places WP
  • 5mins pass
  • CO receives notification that "Informant has reached location"
  • 30-60seconds pass
  • CO receives notification that "The informant hasn't found any/many(?) hostiles in the area" OR "The informant reports hostiles in the area"
Now.

After the initial report, does the informant leave? If it does leave, then is the way point now defunct? If the way point is defunct, must the CO now delete the marker to re-use? Does it generate new reports every 30-60seconds? If not every 30-60seconds getting new reports, then what?

There are 7 WPs, correct? So the INS has 7 informants?

The informants only report if there are "enemies in the area." What is the definition of "the area"? Is it 100m radius around the WP? 200m? etc. Is this variable based on map size?

I think these are all of my questions.

INS CO places WP
5mins pass
CO receives notification that "Informant has reached location"
30-60seconds pass
thats all correct i think, but the last one isn't

iirc (and my memory isn't stellar) 3 men or a vehicle will trigger an informant report when they pass near the waypoint marker

the waypoint marker will remain and continue working as an informant until you delete it

Thanks Rudd,

Though again: What constitutes "near?"

100m? 200m? 1000m? Is it variable?

100m to 200m depending on the map size.

About 5 minutes after

multiple enemies in his area (6 or more). The reports take about 30 to 60
seconds to reach the commander and can be used to determine where the
opposition is approaching from.
If its 3 or a vehicle the manual should be changed. Im not trying to find your mistakes im just saying that there are several mistakes in the manual after the update.

Id be happy to help edit the manual or point out some flaws.

Id also add the range on how much the "informant" see since it can only be speculations at this point and in reality an informant would be able to give more detailed information i think.

one of the other mistakes in the manual is that now the commander only needs 6 players near him 1 beeing squadleader to place a commander rally, and the medic cannot heal himself anymore by looking down.
