Newbie looking for a few good servers

Post by Mantooth »

I just picked the mod up and I've read the manual, and fooled around in coop with the various factions to get a feel for things. I jumped into a server but found it seriously lacking the fabled teamwork and tactics project reality is so famous for. I was just wondering if some of you veterans could let a newbie like myself know what the best servers are for a genuine project reality experience.
Thanks in advance!

Not only can it vary server to server, but also squad to squad as an SL will directly influence the cohesion of his squad. A bad SL could easily give the wrong impression by letting his squad lonewolf while there is absolutely no coms for minutes, sometimes not at all. A good SL will not only coordinate his squad effectively, but he will work with other squads as well, so the benefits are two fold.

I would highly recommend Tactical Gamer's server. Just use a mic and always use mumble on their server. That why I love that server, its one of the few that pretty much everyone uses Mumble. Adds so much to the game. People are generally willing to help out noobs, good luck!

Tactical Gamer, no question. There's some very good EU servers as well, but TG is an old veterans' favourite and seeing how you're from the states, your ping will be be low there, too, so go for that.

Use mumble, get to know the community and play in squads whose leaders you know for maximum enjoyment.

Step one: Open server browser

Step two: identify Tactical gamer (62/64)

Step three: Quickly alternate between TG and the server below it until it reads 61/64.

Step four: click quickly.

Step five: curse whoever beat you to it.

Step six: repeat three and four until you get in.

Thanks for the advice guys. Looks like everyone loves tactical gamer. I set up mumble as well, so the next time I get into the server I'll try using it. Looking forward to some good firefights!

Try South Ural, the most appropriate server for a newbie.

Make sure you bring vodka and have a high ping tolerance (I'll be honest, if TG isn't rubbing me the right way, which it rarely does, place has a smooth and gentle touch most the time, I'll hit a Brit server cause I love those ********, ping doesn't matter all that much in PR, at least in most engagements. Yay? Nay?)

Project Reality - PRSPY - Server and player browser and tracker - Create a buddy list - Launch PR directly
If you're looking for a server check there. That will show all the servers populated ATM.

Tactical gamer tends to have the most long time players, but there are other servers that maintain a passable amount of cohesion.
First and foremost the UK servers are quite playable, however you may have trouble what with them being 5 hours ahead Eastern standard.
That's NWA and UK warfare.
The 128 server is usually pretty entertaining, though most people are just dicking around there's enough teamwork to be fun and not completely stupid. It's not up most of the time however.
PRTA's pretty good, though I know little of it.

Hardcore =]H[=
You're not going to get any teamwork on their servers. It's a veritable Grand Theft Auto. Unless you're playing with friends you'd be better off playing Bad Company or Call of Duty.

CIA is quite entertaining, assuming you are entertained by hours of Kokan. You may not be, but I personally am. They dont have much teamwork but there's enough admins on to deal with anybody who's too too bad.

As for Asian, South American and more Eastern European servers, I couldnt tell you. I'm also sure I'm missing a few American servers as well but I covered most of the commonly populated ones.

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the training event due to travel, but thanks for the invite. I hope everything goes well and you craft some high skilled PR players to play with and against!
And thanks a ton CommunistComa for the links and a breakdown of the server groups. It will definitely help when it comes to choosing a good server to play on.
Thanks again for all of your advice, and patience!

Note that with the new release a lot of new players started playing the mod which dramatically decreased the level of teamwork.

Step three: hit "server info" tab

Step four: hit "auto deploy" tab

Step five: set max players to 62 then start it.

Step six: if its after 5 and on an INS map, stare at the Auto Deploy screen for 4 hours to get in or alt tab and: browse forums, make sandwich, watch netflix, call girlfriend, write masters thesis.

Y u no do this? The auto deploy tab is the greatest feature ever added, especially after new release when your chosen server of play becomes caked with players for hours.

NwA is good, but there is not too much admins on AAS server as they all love insurgency.
AAS server is best at weekends when there is some NwA on.

Sisu (as it comes up) has usually nice games, it has quite many regular players which I find experienced and teamwork willing.
TG is good as well, probably one of the best ones for you since you're american.
Pelitutka has nice games, most of the players are teamwork willing.
PRTA, usually has teamwork and communication based games + for them since of the mumble requirement
Those servers I find the most enjoyable

Thanks for all the great info guys! I started playing PR just before the .96 release and i have noticed an increase in players. As far as I'm concerned it just means more targets haha. I'll definitely be trying out the auto-deploy feature. Seems like it can save me quite a bit of time when i go server searching. Again thanks for all the great info and I hope to see you guys on the battlefield, but hopefully not through my rifle optics ;)
