Optic-less maps.

Post by Morph^RS »

So I've been searching and looking around, with little luck. I was wondering what PR players think of the idea of a mostly iron sight focused map. Yes, optics are standard issue in most modern armies and all, but for example two unconventional factions like Militia vs Taliban. I think it would make gunfights a lot more fun. Let me know what you think and why it is/isn't a good idea.

It'd probably play out exactly the same as regular maps. I've found that everybody engages at the same ranges regardless of what scope they have (obviously different if its a sniper/AR/marksman)

@Snazz Well yeah, just with PR:BF2 factions, and the beautiful urban maps the mod has. Militia reminds me of home a lot.

@dtacs Ive played Dragon Fly numerous times as Militia, and when we see Brits we always try to close in undetected, of course far enough so they couldnt hit us with hip fire, but close enough to make it hard to aim with their scopes.

Haha, that's pretty ironic VISTAmaster!

OP, do you mean skirmish maps or actual 1km or 2km maps with just ironsights?
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

vistamaster, you've already been informed that you need to run the installer and program after setting up xp sp3 compatability in the .exe's properties

the editor works fine on vista and win7, the only major issue that comes up afaik is that you cannot generate correct groundhemi.dds files and on vista you have to open photoshop to move objects smoothly

I felt both happy and glad when I read this. :D

The second variant, that's why I was wondering what you guys make of it all. Iron sights, some technicals, BMPs, maybe even a tank. Old style modern warfare.

I was thinking if I do have to use my non-existent modding skills on this, to put the Taliban or something on Dragon Fly, to fight against the Militia. But Militia is the only unconventional faction with vehicles. Id then need to make an entire new faction from the Taliban to add them a crewman kit, right?

I'm pretty sure we arent gonna implement Taliban vs random teams, the line has to be drawn somewhere :)

PRV will have alot of ironsights, so perhaps you should try your hand at a jungle map

alternatively talk to teh French Forces team, I don't know what kind of scoped support is featured in the African resistance faction, perhaps a bit of insurgents vs ARF would work.

Uhh, trust me, where i'm from, we've had US/NATO vs Mujaheddin, Militia vs Mujaheddin, and UN/NATO vs Militia. Also Militia1 and Militia2 vs Mujaheddin, or Militia2 and Mujaheddin vs Militia1 etc.. etc..
True story bro.

Not a bad idea, but it would be chaos for commanders and squad leaders trying to tell forces apart, I have nothing against that kind of chaos in war, adds a bit of realism I think, but other players might not be as enthusiastic.

I meant make a new map from scratch where two iron sight factions would be realistic on, not to take an existing map and shove the Taliban on it :p

I suppose you're right, I should at least give it a go. Even tho I predict a lot of trial and error.

I think optic-less maps would be a lot of fun. It would change things up a bit as you go from playing round after round. While the gameplay may not be all that different (engagement ranges and the like) I still think that it would feel different, and would be a lot of fun.
Besides PR:Vietnam, I think that it would be cool to have a militia vs. militia map.

Ill give it a try, something small, if it proves to be as fun as I imagined, anything is expandable, if not, PR:V has got itself a new fan.

I'm still going to push my idea of MEC vs Tali. However, Tad Sae does emphasize the use of iron sights OP and has a Viety feel!

I think an Insurgent vs. Taliban map could work, not very realistic but neither are the Taliban speaking Arabic. In any case you can just ignore the "Taliban" at the top of the screen and pretend they're a rural tribal militia confronting the more urban one represented by the Insurgents.

The only problem is that the Insurgent kit layout(with the pick-up kits and the civilians) wouldn't really work in AAS(I'm guessing that's what you're aiming for since in this case the warfare will be quite symmetrical), unless you can somehow use their Co-op kits.
