I like the idea of smoke not blocking thermals. Even if you do pop smoke do you really think that gunner wont realize you are pretty much in the same exact location?
Armored battles without weapon stabilization is more about terrain manipulation and advantage by numbers than anything else.... as it should be.

Thats the point of it blocking thermals, the gunner thinks you are in the same spot so he might shoot into the smoke blindly thinking you are still there. But if the tank being fired at backed up abit or moved a little bit behind a building then the gunner of the other tank would have just fired at nothing. Allowing the tank that popped the smoke to either pop out and shoot the attacking tank while he is reloading or to quickly shag *** out of there and go back to repair.
Without thermal blocking smoke the attacking gunner doesnt have to question that final shot because he knows exactly what the tank is doing or where it went to hide. If anybody is trying to get out from a broken tank popping smoke is of no use .
I think the smoke would add a little bit of strategy to the end of a tank battle instead of just having two tanks looking at each other waiting to reload and get off a shot before the other guy does.

Armored battles with weapon stab is more about terrain manipulation and advantage by numbers anyway. The first part loses a bit of reasonability, but in the real world you don't have hard flat ground anyway.ytman wrote:Armored battles without weapon stabilization is more about terrain manipulation and advantage by numbers than anything else.... as it should be.
As for my 2 cents, yes. Modern tanks use multi-spectrum smoke to break contact, and in FLIR IR-blocked smoke is cold, so it's quite jarring when deployed on top of a hill because suddenly it looks like the hill has actually gotten smaller and the tank is nowhere to be seen.

(0.95 quote)'[R-DEV wrote:Jaymz;1551578']Agree about the annoying material issues. This is fixable.
The whole "jack-in-the-box" issue can be remedied somewhat if we were to give HEAT rounds a small radius of 2-3m that kills regardless of cover, basically a pseudo simulation of the rounds destructive capability.
Another thing to decide on is tank smoke capabilities. It should either block IR or last 3-4 times longer. Right now it only lasts a short amount of time like IR blocking smoke...but doesn't block IR, kinda the worst of both worlds
Guess they choose the 2nd option, anyway its easier to kill an enemy tank than a pro HAT guy who knows to exploit terrain.
Can we have the gunner fire IR blockin smoke and the driver the normal one?

But smoke from tank mounted smoke launchers do block thermal in real life.
The smoke launchers use White Phosphorus which burns very rapidly and can set fire to clothing and give serious burns. It also burns to rapidly give off a big wall of smoke.

Now that i've justified it properly can we put it in?

You can see trough dust with thermal. Dust is particle in the air, not a mud wall.PatrickLA_CA wrote:Not through dust eh, it's dirt, and you don't see through dirt...

T90 in reall life, is best defended tank against rockts.
It could be cool and a bit unfair to give to T90 ARENA.
