A 12 hour round might be fun in ARMA 2 with proper tactics... but..

it would degrade quickly me thinks...

Europeans populate the server, around 00:00-02:00 GMT the americans take over, then australians, and back to europe the next day :)

Persistence is semi-possibly with ArmA 2 (it's still kinda glitchy). PR might be able to capitalize on it there, but definitely not in BF2.

well i feel that when the rounds are short people stop thinking about how to work as a team and would like to see 12 hour round to see how this would change if at all.

^xambone, which people do that?

BTW guys, even if this was PR:ARMA2... If you get a round going for 12 hours and something really (really) bad happens to one team... The game simply becomes funless. A fresh start is necessary to keep things fresh, balanced and fun.
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

Playing PR for twelve hours is poor for your health.

The nays have it.

In current PR, yes, we technically could have a 10,000 ticket 12 hour game, but current PR maps don't take more than 4 hours to play anyway. So, for this to work, we would need like 512 players, 16x16km maps, and like Comidian said, players from around the world would have to take part in it, which would make it more like 3-4 games.

some of you seem to want to modify the question to fit your game or amount of players im talking about an all day 12hr round, you dont have to play the entire time but a real struggle instead of a cap em out in 20 mins. Can an R-Dev comment on the maximum number of ticket that can be in a round or is it infinite.

Everyone is saying "this could work if", I believe the general consensus is that simply boosting the tickets to keep 24/7 muttrah on the same round 24/7 runs a high risk of making the game very stale. A map change (even if it's back to muttrah) provides the team with a fresh start morale-wise as well as resetting the assets/flags. Swapping factions will keep the same map interesting, and often mixes the teams with those who wanted to continue with their previous faction. I could throw a slew of ifs you way but you don't seem interested.

Most people wont stay for 12 hours. Its a matter of taste. Some people will see sport in trying to turn a team around, that is 2000 tickets in the hole. Others will feel miffed having to take over the bad rounds of other people. Personally I never tried to play any game 12 hours in a row.

What happens when the last flag is capped? ;)

You would have to have a map for it, possibly carrier assault.

Are public servers allowed to modify ticket count and time of round to their liking?

I believe it has to be locked with a password / off the server list in order to be modified.
