Okay What the hell is going on with my long range engagements???

Post by maniac1031 »

Okay so ever since this new patch I cant seem to hit shit at Range with scopes. Long range has always been my strongest aspect of pr but now I cant seem to make simple shots that I used to be able to. For example I was playing on Iron eagle the other night and had the mec sniper rifle. I'm over-watching alkomin from a hill 300M away. I see an officer going to place a fob. Wait 12 sec to make sure there is no way in hell I miss, I glide my scope onto his head and pull the trigger..... and nothing happens the guy ducks as if the round went past him. That is such a simple shot with any scoped weapon I've made shots at that range with iron sights yet I cant seem to make them now?? After that shot i proceeded to dumping 2 mags into the squad only killing 2 of them even though it was 300-400 M so bullet drop would not be a factor and I waited longer than 8 sec every round?

Another example.. On fallujah I killed a Marine rifleman and took his gun. I see a hostile saw in a building 150 M away from me wait 5 sec put acog on head pull trigger same thing guy just ducks.

Could this have something to do with my graphics settings because I needed to lower them from the previous version. They used to be at Medium-high now they are at medium-low

settings: Display mode: 1024x768@75Hz
Terrain: Low
Effects: Low
Geometry: Medium
Texture:Medium
Lighting:Low
Dynamic Shadows: Off
Shadows :O ff
Anti-Aliasing: Off
Texture Filtering:Medium
View distance: Max

I too have noticed that there is something odd about the MEC sniper, I've missed shots from roughly 200m away even after waiting some 10 seconds to take a shot.

You might want to turn AA up, IIRC thats what decreases the jagged edges on models in game, and should give you a better quality sight picture. I've currently forced over BF2's with CCC and gone up to 16x, and you can notice the difference dramatically.

Hmm, interesting, sorry if I am wrong (I am probably wrong) but that may be a bug regarding the RPG bullet drop so , it kinda affected the sniper rifle?

I thought rpg rounds were intentional and its not drop I should have been able to hit the guy with my m16 in one shot anyway.

And I saw that I had the same reaction when I was using the rifle.

I know it can be done easily I'm not making any mistakes they should all be kills. Wait for 8 sec place sight on targets head up to 600 meter squeeze trigger. I'm used to using the kit its just I cant hit anything at range anymore with any scoped gun.

Either a graphics thing or it may have something to do with a lot of my shots not registering. ex putting 3 ak rounds into the back of a Russians head on Yamalia only to have him turn around and one shot me. Or me shooting a marine in the chest with the Remington at 2 feet range and him not even getting hurt. See 48 sec of this video.

To be honest I too have noticed this but just thought i was doing something wrong, started trying to adjust for drop at ranges where it shouldn't need it.. I was sniper for insurgents on a map yesturday covering from a block of flats, had countless shots that should have been head shots on enemies in an opposite block but not 1 fell.

also noticed it with scoped standard rifles.
having been out the game for a fair while I thought maybe I was just rubbish now, where i used to be fairly efficient but if there is something not quite right it would be cool to get it sorted and allow me to not feel so rubbish! haha

Even turning it up slightly will make a substantial difference, especially if you're used to not having it on as he does.

Noobs, you must aim for the torso, not head. "But, but h3adsh0tting is c00l" Nope, its not. Why?
1.Bf2 hit registration sucks, you have better chance of hitting if you aim for torso
2. IRL they go for torso, so its tacticool
3. Just dont
4. Over long range models can become bugged, meaning that if you aim for head the bullet might miss. Good example of this seeing people behind ridgelines
5. Dont

Understand what you're saying Tarra, but if you know that you have a 100% chance of hitting the target then you should aim for the head - otherwise they'll just run to Medic and roflpwn you. Or if you hit the body then whilst you wait to fire the next shot they will maybe headshot you. I should also shut up, there's a thread on this but it's locked.

All that said, I am aiming for the body as much as I aim for the head, but it's silly to have to shoot 3 shots when you could insta-kill to the head. It's funny as well - BAM!

'Limeni[BiH wrote:;1633787']Check out this video by ralfidude, it has some MEC snipping and you might be on to something...
He wasnt very patient with that MEC kit, you'll notice aside from his one impatientness with the US Sniper that was close he did fine with the same gun .

Mkay I turned up AA to 4 yet on burning sands I wanted to test the mec sniper so i had it in the power plant. Now there was a guy 50 M away from me laying down facing the other direction shooting at some friendly mec soldiers so i set up wait the 8 sec fire and...... in he turns around and shoots me once in the chest without pausing to sight in his weapon or any thing. Luckaly nato weapons are **** so i just field dressinged my self. But wth I would have been better of with my pistol at that range.

if you hit someone in the torso they will go black and white, in my opinion snipers should be a deterrant and used as a harrassing tool, also remember IRL a person helmet is bigger than his head, so if you hit his helmet the likelyhood is that you probably missed his head.
Aiming for the torso is an effective shooting tactic and you will get less kills but you will stop enemies from getting close to you, also if you're fare enough away they can't shoot back. Snipers are great and watching open areas and halting advances untill mortors, CAS or other assets can take out the squad.

And if they go black and white they will need a medic. And that will possibly expose the enemy squads medic. With the new medic system, even if the shot doesn't kill him, there is a chance that he will bleed out before he can swap kits or get back to his squad to swap kits.

Medics have 5 patches...

The point of that is to actually kill the medic(because most medics do not move when healing people).
