Too much of a good thing???

Post by B.Olson[2DMAR] »

Just hooked up a 42" screen to my PC and played PR on it for the first time. It is almost twice the size of my previous monitor. Is it possible for a monitor to be too big???

Yeah I'm beginning to like it, it's definitely going to take some getting used to....

You got Antialiasing set to 1000 ? Must be easy to spot all the course corners even in high resolution.

I got a 24inch ... I dont wanna go any bigger since that would force me to move further away from the screen and unless you want your entire family to watch you play i don't see the point in going higher. You can always go with 2 x 24 inch or even 3 x 24 inch and use the extra screens for stuff like mumble..or music videos or whatever. many games also start to fully support multi-screen like racing games and new shooters or simulators.

as long as the rest of your system keeps up with it I see no problem with bigger monitors, they let you sit a bit further back which surely puts less strain on you?

I was joking. I dont think you can go over 8 and it wouldn't be much useful anyway except putting more pressure on your gpu.

I play on a 16'' monitor, often in windowed mode. I've been considering about buying a new one, though.

I went from 17" to 24" widescreen, and was amazed at what I was missing. The crispness of an LED monitor is great. A good monitor is critical to a good gaming experience IMO.

Out of interest to you guys with big monitors, do you actually sit further back from the monitor than you used to, or do you find yourself at the same distance but only looking at the middle part of the screen? (i.e. the bigger picture is great but you only focus on the distance and you're still peering into it trying to make out enemy soldiers, etc.

Sometimes I think with my 24" that I only really look at the centre of it, and like to sit really close to it. Obviously a high res like that means distant objects are clearer.

Sometimes I wonder if that's why it's so irritating to shoot far-off objects - I'm actually engaging them from what for some people is beyond distinguishable range.

(I do understand that the bigger screens still have the same 1920x1200 resolution as mine).

This is kind of off topic but related, In MLG Variants Tourneys etc... most use a 19-21 inch monitor :) also its all about dat 1920x1080 resolution although I would like the higher one!

Actually, it's quite possible.

I guess if you need alot say 20, all similar spec and size I bet Smaller but better quality res screens would be the best yes for transporting. :)

It's not inches that matter but resolution. In my opinion anyway. 1920*1080 looks much better on a 22" screen than on a 42" TV..

I find that to be true, but the immersion factor is amazing with a larger screen. It definitely took some getting used to, but you're right, things look much sharper and a more mid-sized monitor.

Same. Went from a 17" LCD at 1440x900 and a 15" at 1024x768 to 2 22 " LED monitors. Serious Eye Candy.
