UAV visability from ground

Post by KiloJules »

First off: this is no suggestion!

...just a couple of questions about the UAV in game and irl.

Let's say a Taliban leaves his shelter is there anyway he could see a drone in the air or is it that high that it is not visible at all with the human eye?

Is it POSSIBLE to have the UAV visible in game?
Is it a "real" vehicle, only a camera view port or maybe an invisible PR-Bot of some sort?

As you all can see by now I want to know this to further think about and maybe in the future pass a suggestion once we are again allowed to do so ;)

Thanks for any answers, especially about the coding/in game side...

Kind Regards,
KiloJules

In reality I am sure its dependent on weather and altitude whether or not someone can see it.

In the game it used to be seen if I recall correctly, however the new UAV is not visible in game.

In Vanilla you could see it, in PR you never could.

Assuming the UAV is a Predator you'll never be able to see it or hear it before it's too late. Could be interesting with different types of UAVs if it was possible. Like a standard RC UAV with propellers, which is a more common sight around friendly outposts since normal infantry can put them in the air. (Not saying every infantry should be able too though).

IRL a UAV is usally so high you wouldn't see it, plus it's grey and not bright pink so it'd be really hard to spot anyway :L
but yeah even if you could see it, you'd really strugle to.

Okay...so you say it wouldn't be realistic to have the UAV visible from ground as it is too high/small to be seen. :( Bummer, cause I would have liked the idea of watching the sky before I leave my cover to set a mine on the road or just somehow knowing that I am being watched.

Off-Topic, but i don't wanna make a new thread cause I am sure there is one but oc I can not find it...
Playing PR now for about 15 months on an almost daily basis. Consider myself not a bad player, I know lots of the game mechanics and so on BUT...

[shame]
How do you mark enemy choppers?
Can I only do it via the big "Contact" button, when there is a Commander?

I looked through all my "Q" and "T" menus while holding different stuff in my hands...
[shame]

Thanks for the answers so far!

look at the chopper and select contact as a tank or commander and it'll get marked iirc

The talibs etc won't get UAVs, but with the commander waypoint informer system is good enough imo.

Though interesting story from Chickenhawk by Robert Mason, the US used chopper recon in vietnam obviously, and teh VC wanted to use it to...but how? They sent a couple of kids (like 9year olds) to get captured, and the soldiers on teh chopper that flew them away didn't blindfold them...so they had a really nice view of all the camp defences as they took off. Just thought that was interesting.

That was a good book! And I have never seen that informant system used yet.

Me neither - Sounds like an optimal workaround/idea though!

I belive the "helicopter spotted" feature works whenever your in a vehicle.... even if your a passenger.. Use Q and select "spotted"

I could be wrong though

The ins. informant system works even though its quite dodgy and if the enemy is moving fast it is useless.
I use it whenever im commanding but it aint that often i play ins.
Its very good to put "informants" on locations where you would expect the blue-for to build a fob ...then you know when you have a target for a bomb truck :p

UAV altitude can go up to 20k feet, so don't expect to see it before it can see you ;)

Ya, the contact thing for the chopper works nicely when you're in the UAV, could mark all the choppers coming (albeit for a short period of time) on Muttrah.
