Hi everyone
I'm having some constant problems with my connection when I'm on PR. Every 20 minutes or so, my screen will come up with the all too familiar 'There is a problem with you connection' message, then it will kill my connection to the game and send me back to the main menus.
It's not a case of the internet connection itself dropping, because Mumble continues to work and i can pretty much immediately reconnect.
I only have this problem when i'm at home and not at university, so i'm assuming that its something to do with my router. I know a lot of purists will say 'just plug it into the back of the router, job done' but that's impractical for me because the router is downstairs and my set up is upstairs. I posted a thread about this a while ago but i've lost it and i cant find it again, and i'd prefer not to revive a necro thread.
In that thread, i seem to remember someone saying something about PnkBstrB not working or something about me needing to update my punkbuster files, but when i DL'd and installed 0.966, it came up with a punkbuster update thing and came up saying both PnkBstrA and B were both working correctly, but i still get frequent disconnections so i'm guessing it wont be that.
The router i'm using is a ZyXel_1570hun if that helps. It may be something to do with my firewall or something similar but i don't know where to start with that.
One last thing while i'm making a thread, what in god's name does Nerfing mean? Just read a thread about nerfing the RPGs, i'm guessing it means to make it weaker or less effective/efficient etc? I'd feel like a bit of a tool going on the main forums and asking there lol.
Many thanks!
Tom

Hi, welcome to support and i'll be helping you today. Lol. Definitely a router firewall problem. Check which ports you are using, make sure that your current AV program isn't blocking you. Although sounds like a router issue. I winced when i saw the router you are using. If you go to network in your start menu, you should be able to see your router there. double click it and hopefully it should allow options. You want to go to port fowarding. Lemme know what you see.
ANd nerfing means messed up, nearly made useless. It seems to some people now that the nature of the RPG's has changed when they have always been finicky and overpowered. *opinion*

I'm using AVG for my anti-virus stuff and its never given me any problems in uni, so its definately a router problem. As soon as we got the thing i begged and pleaded with my dad to get a new one but he wouldn't listen. I had a brainwave that it might be obsolete software so i'll have a look at checking that out if i can't get a fix on here, it might be something as trivial as that...
And cheers for the explanation on nerfing... I no longer feel like a tool!
When i go into the router itself (192.168.1.1) i've got an option for port forwarding on there if that's the kind of thing we're looking for if its router based? Other than that i can't find an option for port forwarding through control panels and such.

Re: Frequent connection dropping
It would have been perfectly fine to continue the thread about the exact same issue.
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... oblem.html
The port-forwarding is usually not needed unless you are trying to host a server or the firewall is setup extremely strict.
What you should also look for in the router are logs. See if anything suspicious like DOS-Attacks are showing up.

So try disabling ingame VOIP for testing purposes.fubar++ wrote:This "connection lost" problem is mostly if not all routing issue with VoIP. Some firewalls are considering VoIP packets Denial of Service (DoS) attack therefore closing connection.
Try disabling VoIP in your sound settings, or shut down all firewalls (this is what EA Tech support suggested). If it works you should also be able to fix it.
