But my grandma gave me this Keffiyeh for my birthday!!

Post by 80HD »

I have been wondering why, when picking up an OPFOR weapon (especially as Insurgent forces, as the disparity is generally a more motivating factor) one deigns to don the cap of the opposing force as well...

I have killed my share of friendlies when you are being overrun and you have enemies and allies wearing the same helmets in the same buildings and things are far too intense for checking the map and staying alive.

I have also been killed by friendlies multiple times even when you are standing around with multiple friendlies, which is always a breathtaking event.

Is this a game design consideration, or is this forced by the BF2 engine?

I don't actually think it's hardcoded since in vBF2 you only pick up the kit not his helmet as well. But don't know about current game mechanics and how it affects 'em

Side effect of the new kit gemoetries I believe. Might or might not have something to do with changes to how far away weapons render or something.

I know that it was 'introduced' in a relatively recent patch, and not as an intended feature.

My guess: By linking weapons and the rest of the equipment, the devs managed to make both render at the same (high) distance, or were able to do something with the quality or some other thing that we'd not want taken away.

Cant they then just change helmet texture to something invisible?

There's a thread on this somewhere, probably in the feedback section. In my opinion it's so you can take an insurgent kit and look all SAS. Possibly. (I jest).

I thought it had something to do with the update when kit geometries could be seen from a bigger distance. Remember in the old days you could just see a soldier. Now you can see if its an officer, medic or what not. And with that update, came the picking up clothes if I remember correctly.

This is a result of the unique PR kit geometries. It's an unwanted side effect that hasn't been solved (and may not be solveable).

My guess is that it has probably something to do with the "drop kit" function, where you need to display the invisible mesh on a soldiers body.

Already a known bug... Search before posting, it's a side effect of the new kit geometries...

I think it's good in a way, it will literally FORCE people to WATCH THEIR FIRE. and IDENTIFY their targets first, BEFORE shooting. This ain't COD FFA.

I think it's a great little trick to stay relatively unnoticed by your enemy, as long as you stay far away and move fast enough. Unless you're on the 128sisu server, then it's just lolsy.

I remember someone found why this bug happen in PR and he knew how to fix it. If it is not fixed yet, he might be wrong but I think it is because of the geometrykit name.
Sorry for my english :o ops:

Lusciously sorry, but:

"Picking up guns without camo"

Didn't jump right out and grab my attention when I did my search. I do search 95% of the time before I post, and since I am 16/7ths retarded, this is a remarkable feat.

Of course, hindsight does scold me for my convoluted (but 1000% awesome) title in that it is likely to also be overlooked should someone else search.

I personally find the thread productive nonetheless, and getting called out for a thread delete by a German with NEO as his avatar, well... I will wear that like a badge.

I agree to a great extent, the problem - again - comes in overrun CQB situations where smoke, frags, and multiple friendlies and enemies in the same building prevent any SA beyond a reasonable visual in the .05 seconds you have before engaging the target.

Thank you all for the helpful information and other tidbits!
