Editing - Windows Movie Maker 6

Post by saXoni »

Hey guys. I've got 30 minutes of gameplay I'd really want to put on Youtube. But before I do it, I have to edit it, put the clips together, etc etc.
As I drag the clips from my external HDD to Windows Movie Maker 6, and click play, the video is lagging a lot. As if I'm watching a clip on Youtube with bad internet connection.

Why is this happening? Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
saX.

I think I found the problem. I've been recording on a external HDD. When I add a movie from my internal HDD, it's not lagging. Does this make any sense?

umm. it shouldn't lag. Don't underestimate the speeds of USB 2.0 It can easily reach speeds of over 12Mb/s.. which is the speed of a 100MB/s network... more than plenty to stream an HD movie. Try using a different editor such as sony vegas pro.. or if you wanna get technical and like command lines use ffmpeg. Windows movie maker is just.. ghastly. (opinion but i'm sure many will agree)

Try publishings the movie after all your editing has been done and without previewing it. Then see if it's all choppy and stuff.

If the external is USB2.0 that might be causing the lagg. Best thing to do would be to move the clips to the internal HDD or plug the external in via e-sata cable.

USB won't be able to cope so well with the large format of videos nowadays and the stresses editing puts on it.
