I see racial, religious and political issues every day when i'm watching the news or reading the papers, the last place i wanna see them is in my game. I play to have fun, not to discuss or argue about these issues.

Its just people being dumb and messing around, they dont really mean these things and would go out every day and do what they do in pr. Theres a point in life where you have to think past what you see and wonder about the intentions. I think the real racists wouldn't be the kind of people to play games for the most part, and if they do they probably arent going to be spamming the server with rants they'll just play the game.

There are exceptions everywhere but whatever. You can do a lot more racist harm to someone with plain words without any racist words. But that takes many words and sentences. If anything you should be proud to be a (insert word here).

Its the internet. We're willingly engaging in something populated by children and people with questionable intellect in a forum where the oppressive guilt or shame of being called out doesn't exist.

I don't like it but I don't really get bent out of shape about it either, but then thats probably cause I'm white. People who use racial slurs get kicked from my squad, I've reported a number of players to admins on this issue. Though i confess I've not reported anyone for the 'allah' stuff; I don't support it but I don't think its on the same level as the other words you mention, the Jew stuff that comes up ingame is something that always angers me and ruins my playtime.

So judaism all of the sudden isn't religious but racial? guess that means it's starting to seep through that ashkenazim are a segregated tribe of people.

I firmly disagree with your historical viewpoint, Rudd, but agree that we shouldn't have to unnecessarily be confronted with theological nor racial ideologies when all we want to do is play a video game for our own entertainment.

The problem I see is how many maps and factions ( iraqi and afghani militia to be specific) are based on real conflicts happening right now which inevitably leads to politics which in turn leads to just that, discussions with racial and religious overtones.

I like it how making a squad called "jews" or "ameri-*****" is racist (not even racist) and not acceptable but things like "towelheads", "allah snackbar" or any other reference to Islam is normal and humorous.


There's a difference in stereotyping when talking about the habits of the nation/religion (McDonalds with Americans, money-lover with jews, vodka with Eastern Europeans and ex-Sovjets, etc) or when talking about something sensitive like religion and unforgetable acts of terrorism/other acts like 9/11, recent Norwegian/London bombings, murdered civillians in the Middle East.


But after all, there's no need for making these "funny" names, especially when it comes to nations/religions/other groups.

@Rudd, no argument is good enough for the jews (read; only extreme Zionists, not all the jews *duh*) to just "conquer" Palestine. If you want to talk like that than get all of the Americans back to Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, UK, Ireland, etc.. Because they didn't live there.

I think what this really boils down too is the fact that PR as a whole prides itself in being a fairly mature community, or at least thats what I picture us as. Although I 100% agree with PFunk. This IS the internet where socially anonymous people can post anything they want to say. I think that there will always be two sides to this, the "I don't take it seriously, people are just joking...." side and the "this is offending me".

Everyday you click the browser icon on your computer or any other program that connects to the internet, you are essentially opening your world to derogatory terms and racial slurs. Standards that you may have applied within your real life society, in some peoples minds, do not apply to this alternate society that people associate the internet with.

Although back to my main point. There will always be people that do not take these things seriously and many times I see a lacking interest of protecting the civil rights of different races/religions and their beliefs and ideas; and then again, I see people (for example Rudd) who strive to make a difference on this subject.

I think that we as a community could at least try and deter the use of these derogatory comments especially on eclectic servers. As I said before, I try to think of PR as a community of mature-er people, although the maturity level for the majority of the player base is on the medium to low end of the spectrum, we need to increase the amount of people (regardless of anonymity) in the higher maturity spectrum.

Chink is out of bounds. I find the allahu akbar/infidel stuff a bit more roleplaying than racism. Some people take it to an extreme, but as said while some of it may not be tasteful, neither is plenty of the language used or Rudd going on and on about his night with Rhino's mum. There's ethic and there's a game.
If you shoot some pixel and bytes on your pc in your mother's basement then it's just entertainment, if you flame and make racial/religous slurs it's something different, it may be in a game, but there are feelings involved.
