[Poll]Do you have a significant performance difference between Al basrah 32 and 64/16
Al basrah 32 has got an increased view distance to make choppers more practical
We worried that the clients may have FPS troubles due to previous issues with Al Basrah.
Please vote in the poll to give us a clear indication of how the different layers affected you.
Any additional information can be posted below, any off topic posts will be extremely unwelcome.
Thanks for your cooperation.

Re: [Poll]Do you have a significant performance difference between Al basrah 32 and 6
I have average FPS 45~50 in 32 al basrah as a infantry,i dont see any differences between 64 al basrah and i am using my laptop with NVIDIA G102M OPSYS Windows7,But the FPS will be 20 when i am driving a APC with smoke around...(thermal on)
In a word no trouble running this map.
But in Reality China Community, very few of them met Game Crash and low FPS,I'll post their report later.
Thx

Its been on every night on NwA and I have no issues on the Alternate layer, get constant 100 fps. I would assume the Standard layer is no different since its less intensive.
I'm using CCC to bypass BF2's natural AA so that could make a difference.

Just played a 3 hour round of Standard, absolutely no difference. In my opinion, chopper Basrah is a huge success.

Re: [Poll]Do you have a significant performance difference between Al basrah 32 and 6
I have voted small decreace in performance.
Fps drops a bit but it is still playable.
Standard layout, looking towards the city from VCP, city not viewable = 90fps
Alt layout, looking towards the city from VCP, city viewable = 50fps
Standard layout, inside the city looking towards the hotel, hotel not viewable = 60fps
Alt layout, inside the city looking at the hotel, hotel viewable = 45 fps
All on local.

Last night when I was playing Al Basrah 32 I got moderate lagspikes while flying the merlin helicopter. I then tried to fly the smaller helo and I only had a little lag when I was near the city(just needed to load everything into the RAM I guess) then I switched to the Merlin again and I had no more lags for the rest of the round.

The merlin helicopter has an overcomplicated col mesh, that is a vehicle problem rather than the city
If you have the time/oppotunity try doing it with teh lynx instead

the 64 standard layer has the same VD as 0957 and the same asset layout
the 32 alternate layer has an increased VD, there's no tank reduced armour pieces with a lynx and merlin (merlin is on delayed spawn)

I only played the 32pl layer once and didn't ran Fraps so can't get a serious FPS comparison but it ran perfectly smooth and I can't remember any lag spikes as well.
Many thanks to everyone involved in the making of the best videogaming experience ever !

Re: [Poll]Do you have a significant performance difference between Al basrah 32 and 6
Reality China server had tested this map 32 alternative those days, but very a few of them claimed FPS differences and almost everybody can run it very smoothly.but Vehicle Layout might need some little change.
PS: over 100 ppl in china played this map this mode,Just a few(maybe 10?)said they have slight FPS drop.
Everything is good!

IMO Most people who voted just put the top one because they aren't sure xD
It's not view distance. It's DAT GRASS.

Re: [Poll]Do you have a significant performance difference between Al basrah 32 and 6
I agree, there may well be a performance dip, however if they do not run benchmarking tools or monitor their FPS, the difference will be imperceptible if the FPS stay above their tolerance threshold. (Generally >30fps, sometimes >60fps, depends on the person).Dev1200 wrote:IMO Most people who voted just put the top one because they aren't sure xD
I like numbers better, and I can confirm that there is indeed a performance difference between the layers, however it is not particularly significant (I consider >20% avg difference significant, and it's not quite there).

With that being said, that's purely a LEVEL test. The increase in VD will result in more players/vehicles/effects being seen at any given point, so it could well push the performance dip further. It would require extensive benchmarking over several rounds of each layer in similar circumstances to really be able to give an answer.

Re: [Poll]Do you have a significant performance difference between Al basrah 32 and 6
Very helpful post Psyrus.
I voted "No difference". You can see my PC specs in my forum profile.
I absolutely love the 32 layer. The reduced armor means more boots on the ground which is great for those pesky caches in the city.
