Distorted/static mic

Post by Asystole »

When I try to run PR microphone threshold test I get very very annoying, ear shattering and looping distortion to my headphones. Also in-game people say that my microphone sounds very static and distorted and LOUD. I've been trying to change the values but obviously the problem still exists. Battlefield 2 microphone calibration doesn't detect my mic.

Windows recorder sounds good and very little static noise.

I've got Gigabyte motherboard with Realtek HD audio - soundcard. Creative Fatal1ty headset, mini jack plugs connected to rear ports.

So basically the problem is Voip audio quality in-game. Any ideas to fix?

If your are loud and distorted you might be able to fix it by simply turning down the game's "Transmit Volume" (or unticking "Mic Boost").
When digital sound gets too loud it starts distorting.

Thank you for the answer. However as a musician I know that sound get distorted when too loud.
microphone sounds very static.
Is there any way to reduce static interference?

???

Edit: New ****. My clanmate said that he can hear himself thru my mumble if we talk at the same time. How is that possible with a headset? Echo cancellations are on. Need help with this as well.

Right click on the speaker icon in the start menu, click recording devices, select your microphone and right-click on it and click properties and set it as you would like. Could be a lot of mic boost. Windows seems to automatically set an absurd amount of boost.
