Yea they both work just fine. It might be because I think they're both Saitek products so the software treats them as one joystick when plugged in at the same time so they interface with BF2 as one joystick with multiple axes.

I don't know much about XP64 or whether it would be the cause.

To be slightly OT, I've never been able to get my rudder pedals to function as gas and brake pedals in BF2. I could use the regular yaw axis but I want to use those toe pedals that usually server as differential brake pedals in aircraft sims. The problem I encounter is that the game treats setting the right toe pedal to forward as if I want the same one going back as brake/reverse. This means I have to keep the pedal in the middle position or else I'm constantly backing up.

I'd rather just make 0 to no forward throttle and the other one as zero to 0 reverse. I dunno if thats possible in this game.

On the matter of joysticks and flying choppers, I dunno how you guys do it. It doesn't feel right at all. Like a stick in the mud. Such bad response that I end up crashing the thing for certain. Throttle is beautiful however.
