Yup, without it feels like you have NO power over events.. Possibly realistic but frustrating when the tank trundles by into an ambush as you frantically type.

You're right, mumble would turn into a new method of spamming and noone would use it in fear of the enemy hearing. I'd really like to try it with teams speaking the language of the faction, that'd be cool.[R-DEV]Rudd wrote:to each his own, however this is how I see it in the public games.
1) if the enemy can hear you, everyone stops speaking and just uses VOIP - all mumble benefits are therefor removed
- Realism decrease as IRL you can whisper or use hand signals (whispering through a mike sounds like wind)
- Fun decrease since you are no longer able to talk to your blues
2) if everyone can hear you Mumble becomes even more spammable than currently
- Dead enemies at your feet shouting at you to distract you
- If someone gets unlinked thats 64 people instead of 32 who can hear them
3) Its not realistic for the entire enemy team to speak your team's language
4) some players start infringing server rules with extreme insults and language towards the enemy team, there's no fun in that. People become more interested in teabagging than playing.
Mumble is a communication tool, not a 100% realistic simulation aid but the two channel setup is definately superior. When we discovered this program iGi ran the first mumble nights around here, and we quickly discovered how players would soon misuse the program with a 1 team setup.

It did used to be very fun on NWA when they had one channel. On Insurgency at any rate.
Is it possible to make a 'global' button, so you can taunt the enemy?
Suppose it would be open to abuse too, because it's not linked to player avtar status

I'm not sure about what is happening with the next ver of mumble, but if it can recognise waht team your in then maybe you could use the two team set-up, but if someone on the other team speaks it sounds like radio static or another noise, thus being relaistic so that you can hear them, while not being able to translate their langauage.
Also a whisper function that broadcasts full/half volume over only 5 meters would need to implemented.

Unless you made it so that the given noise was the same volume as their broadcasts?
