PR: Flashback
Hi community, this is in no way a suggestion but more of a "lets see who is interested" kind of thread. i am looking into learning how to mod with the bf2 engine or possibly the arma 2 engine for PR.
my idea is to create (with the devs permission?) what i call Project Reality: Flashback.
it will be still modern conflicts but some years in the past, like the Battle of Goose Green in the Falklands war or the Gulf War. Or maybe old conflicts, modern weapons like say Vimy Ridge 2011 or kursk 2011 perhaps but still focused on PR's gameplay. i have yet to workout which ideas i will go with. i want to hear from the Community what their thoughts on this are. i am also looking for tips from experienced modders to help me out.
this will be a huge undertaking it my take many months before you hear anything. if you would like to be a part of development anyone is welcome even if you have 0 experience like my self.
i look forward to hearing what all of you think.

Re: PR: Flashback
sounds like you are mostly looking for mapping.
Modding Tutorials - Project Reality Forums
if you want to go serious with this, get a small map down and learn the basics with it. after that you should be able to take on whatever you prefer next

What kind of experience do you have in modding?
Think like Leusch says your mostly into mapping, but if you just want to create "scenarios" Arma2 is perfect. Im no expert in scripting in arma2 im more like intermediate, but I might be able to help you out if you need.

Re: PR: Flashback
its not just mapping, creating older style equipment and weapons. i have tried the bf2 map editor but it is being a real pain in the *** right now, not very used friendly but i'm going to stick with it.

i never really got the feeling of the bf2 editor...It works but seems like many things have to be done in an awkward way in order to work.....but that is the life of a modder i guess.

I think your idea will be a ephemera-like to be honest.

Re: PR: Flashback
it's an interesting thought, maybe we can merge it with PR vietnam and change the name to PR:flashback
we can include maps for all the little wars and battles that no one ever makes a game of. sort of like Bosnia, with CF vs Croats. Could be an attacker vs defender style map like the old counter attack game mode.
or the 6 day war. any minor conflict that happened between 1960 and current

Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.

Re: PR: Flashback
Very cool idea, I'd love to jump into conflicts that haven't been glorified over and over again. Falklands would be FAL vs FAL warfare, pretty cool that most of the weapons would be ready to go. Unfortunately it seems like what you're aiming at is creating maps as well as factions (with/with out assets), and that's a rather tall order especially with little to no experience under your belt. If I were you and really wanted to get this rolling I would try to gather like minded modders willing to invest the time needed to get this idea up to PR standards.

Re: PR: Flashback
the Bosnia idea could be done in the way the map (i don't recall its name) with the British and Militia where Britain has to defend the port while Militia attack. just like many of the zones set up to evacuate civilians.Bringerof_D wrote:it's an interesting thought, maybe we can merge it with PR vietnam and change the name to PR:flashback

but im still not sure what i will attempt first but im leaning toward something like Vimy Ridge modern day, Canada Vs Germany it may be interesting instead of the old soviet or soviet equipped faction vs a NATO county.
also the 6 day war would be cool. I believe it is easier to model a desert map than a wooded map imo but we will see as i learn more with the editor. i am not looking for specific scenario's just game play based on old conflicts and locations.
i am open to any volunteers for this project.
