Maps wont load.
Hey there. I had pr on my computer before. But reinstalled it, and it loads through the menus fine. But when it comes to loading the maps, it just sits at 0%, with no error messages or anything. It doesnt seem frozen either. I tried to do this with just bf2 and the patches installed. Same problem. I also tried running it in XP patch 3 mode, and as a admin. Still no difference.
I have a Intel Duo T5550, 3gig of DDR2 ram, Win 7 32 bit, Geforce 9500M GS.
No idea what to do.

Re: Maps wont load.
hmm.. Does the PR cursor stay there or is it your desktop cursor that occurs? Turn textures to medium and run it in windowed mode. To do this follow these instructions:
1. Go to your Shortcut and right click on it. Select properties.
2. You will see 2 bars with locations in them, go to the first bar and slide the cursor all the way to the right. You will see +menu 1 fullscreen 1. Change it to fullscreen 0
3. Restart the game and see if an error occurs there.

Didn't help. Same problem, the bf2 cursor is showing, and it doesnt seem to freeze up. Just doesn't load. I even bought another bf2 game and reloaded, no change.

Re: Maps wont load.
Could be corrupt preferences files for the game. Delete the BF2 folder inside your Documents folder, then restart game. A new default folder is created.
Note you will have to reset your 'custom' settings so when you get it working the way you like backup the folder. Future replacements can be as simple as a drag & drop.
Good luck

Re: Maps wont load.
I'm having the same problem with maps always crashing upon loading. I deleted the "Battlefield 2" file from My Documents, and now the game won't even start up -- it just freezes at the PR splash screen. At least before the game would actually start ...[R-COM]thepalerider wrote:Could be corrupt preferences files for the game. Delete the BF2 folder inside your Documents folder, then restart game. Re: Maps wont load.
on win7 i have noticed PR alone will not create a new BF2 folder in my documents. after deleting your preferences, try running vbf2 login and then try PR

OK that worked - thanks!FLAP_BRBGOING2MOON wrote:on win7 i have noticed PR alone will not create a new BF2 folder in my documents. after deleting your preferences, try running vbf2 login and then try PR
But the game still CTDs when it reaches 75% mapload, even after deleting my Battlefield 2 folder in my documents. Any other suggestions??

Re: Maps wont load.
Defrag your hard drive
Keep 15-20% free on drive
Try using a 3rd party app like 'Gamebooster' to free up more ram/shut down unneeded apps running in the background.
Get a super fast 2 gig thumb drive to use with 'readyboost"
( Using ReadyBoost-capable flash memory for caching allows Windows 7 and Vista to service random disk reads with performance that is typically 80-100 times faster than random reads from traditional hard drives. This caching applies to all disk content, not just the page file or system DLLs. Flash devices typically are slower than a hard disk for sequential I/O so, to maximize performance, ReadyBoost includes logic that recognizes large, sequential read requests and has the hard disk service these requests.
Run Battlefield Cleaner (v2) to delete your video cards cache
Turn down video settings
Check out Battlefield 2 Tweak Guide for more ideas.
Upgrade to a 1 gig(min)video card
Update to 64 bit system and 4 gigs ram
Good luck

I'll reply to this I guess as if you're talking to me as well. As for your suggestions, I have already done most of them prior to these issues.'[R-COM wrote:thepalerider;1650399']Defrag your hard drive

There has to be some other reason for this issue. Is there any significance that it always CTDs at 75% while loading textures?

Re: Maps wont load.
Sure it could be a corrupt texture file I suppose. You might have to do a clean install using the full 3 part installer. Use a Torrent.
Good luck

Re: Maps wont load.
I did what you said. Run it in a window, tried deleting the bf2 file, tried changing to medium settings, and still not working. I've run it lots on this computer, and never had problems until now. I did complete reinstall, and bought a new bf2, and did a reinstall, but still problems. Any more ideas? Lol! I will keep trying as long as anyone has ideas.

Re: Maps wont load.
I have the same issue, and i'm getting incredibly pissed off with it now. I've been trying for three days flat to get this working, and I did - for a few hours. Earlier today I was playing the mod again, and I was loving it. Then, I ran the game again an hour or two later, and Lo' and behold, it was taking goddamn forever to load maps.
I'm not prone to rage, and I tend to be quite patient with this stuff, but I am at the end of my tether. This is an issue with the PR game code. I am not sure what particular part of it, or why it only happens after working for some time, but i've exhausted every other possible alternative reason.
The issue itself isn't that map's won't load at all, it is that they take ages to do so. It took me 3 hours to load one map earlier, and did exactly the same for exactly the same map when I tried to get back in a half hour later, after crashing.
I managed to get the game working for the time period between 2pm GMT and 7pm GMT. I then left the game, played another game, and then returned at around 8:20 pm GMT to play again. When I tried to join a server then, I had the issue (although I've been having the issue since the day before yesterday, as well).
When I originally got the game working again, I deinstalled everything, and then re-installed BF2 and PR. However, this only provided the temporary fix described above, and is not a long term solution.
This is an incredibly frustrating issue. Obviously any advice would be appreciated, though I have a feeling that this is a coding issue and therefore can't be easily fixed by your average Joe gamer.
Computer Details:
4 Gig Ram
AMD Phenom 9350 Quad Core processor
Windows 7 64-Bit
ATI Radeon HD 5700 series
I Purchased BF2 through Steam.
If you need any more information, feel free to ask. Please be aware though that this problem is not going away, so i'd appreciate it if those concerned would be able to get us a fix asap.
Thanks
