HiFi speakers and amp for PC

Post by hiberNative »

i can't get any good sound from all these damn computer speaker combos. i decided to connect my X-Fi Xtrememusic to an amplifier and then to 2 quality hifi speakers.

any recommendations on amplifiers and hifi speakers?

edit: these look pretty nice as speakers:

Creative Gigaworks T20 II excellent speakers. Also something i find really good is a program that filters sound i posted this too in this thread but ill post it here too, might be worth a try.
Mora wrote:I'm using win7 and SRS Audio Sandbox. I have a soundcard Xonar DG from Ausus, but really i could do without it because it sounds pretty much the same as my on board audio if not the same. But the audio sandbox makes everything sooo much better. More crisp and clear and the bass is much better too. It also has options for 3D sound i think thats what you are looking for.

Some people on gearslutz say these are very decent for the price : Amazon.com: Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speaker System (Black): Electronics

Depends on your budget really.

I got some REALLY nice Altec Lansing speakers + amp that I got with a DELL computer like 8 years ago, even today they still produce better sound than most of my friends speaker systems... Superb sound quality and sustainability. I bet they don't sell just my set of speakers anymore, but I think it would be worth checking out Altec Lansing if they still exists!

Only problem is that there are a lot of cables since the system is kinda old :P But it's different now toh.

If you're looking for some really nice speakers and don't really care about the price, then I suppose that HiFi-Klubben is the place for you..

Is it a 2.1 or 5.1 system you want?

600 euro is more than enough either way.

I'd go with Swan M60-5.1 for surround
Or these for stereo : Audioengine A5 Bookshelf Speakers (Black) A5B B&H Photo Video

If you want to save but still have good stereo, the ones you posted. Or if you want to save even more, the Klipsh ones I suggested.

stereo with subwoofer, but no weak speakers that depend on the woofer.
i really like swan, but they are kinda tricky to get a hold of here in sweden.

Forget about Creative, Logitech and all other toy ware.
You want to get yourself some real speakers you can't go active, you need passive speakers.
For that you need an amp.

Nuforce Icon-2 Integrated Desktop Amplifier

This one delivers excellent sound. I used to have the previous version but upgraded to Icon-2 and the sound now is more than marvelous.

For the speakers I was looking for speakers that could deliver some 360 sound.
So I went with the excellent brand Mirage and got myself the:
http://www.miragespeakers.com/na-en/products/os-sat-overview/

They are outstanding, perfect size and perfect sound.

I got this two products from US, this way I got them half cheaper than I would if I had bought them in Sweden.
Although watch out with the custom taxes, I managed that by first delivering them to my cousin in the States.

For the sub-woofer I wanted something small, something that wouldn't take up all of my room:

Tivoli Audio - Model Subwoofer?

Absolutely no complaint because of the small size. And you can get them from Sweden for around 1200 Skr.

If you buy all this from Sweden it will be just below your budget. And yes Bose is also outstanding although very expensive if you want to get the good stuff from them, not the ones they are making for desktop computer use.

well they have built in amplifier so if the quality of the file is good it will sound good.
they're obviously very well sounding and not only selling on their design. obviosuly don't do very good with metal and such, though ;(

hello hiberNative,

I can only speak from my experience from HiFi systems which I personally use for gaming. I recently purchases a a nice hifi system HERE and I LOVE them. I use these them mainly for gaming on MY pc and the submersion level is un MATCHED i literally feel like I'm inside of battle field ON the field when Im using this system .. My duel screens don't hurt either with this LOL.. I get get sounds of all ranges Highs, mids, and lows when gaming or just listening to music on my PC. I also can move the around very easily for different sounding surround sound or if I change my room around.. fairly easy which I like to do from time to time. I can sync different devices on and off them very easily all at one time. So yea I really mike this new HiFi ! wouldn't trade them!!

Just had to out my thought out there hope this helps!!

If it were my money Id buy used quality speakers. I have 2 Canton GLE 60 which are older than me. The case is wood, the gum around the speakers does not show any wear and the sound is brilliant (not nostalgia vinyl brilliant, just high fidelity). Only wear it has is a pletora of scratches in its armor. In Germany you can pick up old Cantons off ebay for like a hundred Euros add some for foreign shipping.

For 2 pairs of boxes 3 way with a wood casing that lasts and high fidelity sound you probably pay 2000 Euros easy if you buy it new today. Older JBLs are a safe bet too.
