Won't start

Post by Gschuppstar1 »

Hey guys, new to both PR and the forums.

I know there must be literally millions of threads with win 7 problems,so I apologize. But I haven't found one that has catered specifically to my problems.

I've just installed BF2 and patched it to 1.5. I'm running windows 7 on an HP pavilion dv6.
I decided to install project reality, and downloaded the 9.6 full install. Installed it fine, no problems, etc.

But when I try to start PR, I get the splash screen with the dog tags, nothing else. After the splash screen, I'll stay at the desktop as if I hadn't tried to start the game at all. I've tried many other suggestions I've seen, such as deleting some of the movies, changing the compatibility, and running as admin. Same result every time.

So please, help. This mod looks beyond awesome, and I'm looking forward to a realistic BF2 experience, etc.

Did you read the sticky Thread above "pr.exe problems"?

Try to add following line to your shortcut "C:\GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen +szx 1440 +szy 900 wherein you should set the correct values fitting your screen (in this sample its 1440x900, just adjust it to your needs). I had the same issue like you and that fixed it.

There aren't any solutions in the PR.exe problems thread, don't bother.

Widescreen should not be your problem as the 1.5 patch added widescreen support. Did you install 1.41 and then 1.5?

Your problem is that you don't have a profile set up for PR to open with. Try opening BF2, Retrieve or Create your account, and THEN open PR with NO COMPATIBILITY SETTINGS.

He said he couldn't go further than the SPLASH screen, that hasn't anything to do with the profiles so far. At least he should add the parameters "+modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 "
And Vicious, unless you know the guy personally or have connected to his machine you shouldn't tell people that other threads don't have any solution... His few infos could be the cause of man things!

why does he need to add that if 1.5 added widescreen support?

who wants to look through 11+ pages of random solutions?!

If that thread had any real solutions they would be "sticky" with some sort of organization to the solutions, it's bad enough you have to install 5 things just to use PR, let alone spend 5 hours reading random problems and solutions that may or may not be the thing to do.

and also from personal experience, starting in bf2, making your profile, has worked for this very same problem, so even though your technical know how says that isn't the solution, for some reason it was.

It's also an archived solution, so don't shoot the messenger. Can I get some sort of official status for being smarter then a 5th grader?

Where did I shoot the messenger? I just told him to look into the STICKY threads first and try it, how can you be sure that it has nothing good things in it?
And if you would know sth. about parameters, you would understand that in my second post there is nothing with widescreen! And insulting me wont help anyone, in fact, it makes me not help anyone anymore....

Well you told me it has nothing to do with the profiles yet it does... kind of taking a shot at me and that solution, I'm just saying I didn't come up with it.

Secondly your solution looks very similar to a widescreen fix I've seen mutiple times and is the first solution found when searching so I would just assume if that was the problem he would have already tried that. I didn't mean to offend you but I'm interested why you think that would work in this situation?

Ok, I am not "offended", its just that the purpose of a forum and the collection of answers is to serve as a "knowledgebase" for people to get help, correct? So if I look into the first page of the "pr.exe wont start" thread there is that suggestion of adding the parameters and other stuff. Ok, the TS (thread starter) may not know about all that stuff and yes, there are sooooo many possible solutions, but I read WHAT his problem is and just installed Win7 for myself a week ago and had exactly the same issue like he stated.
The parameter "+modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1" tells his BF2/pr.exe to look for "the path of the mod" (+modPath) in the folder "mods/pr", to set the menu (+menu 1) and to run in fullscreen (+fullscreen 1), nevertheless if the BF patch 1.5 knows widescreen or not you MAY add a specific parameter for it or not ;)

For me, the splashscreen issue (and only that) indicates a high possibility that the BF2 shortcut doesnt find the PR path! AFTER the Splashscreen of PR OR BF2 the programm will search for the profiles! What if the player never had a BF2 profile before? Wouldn't he be able to start PR then and always gets stuck at the splashscreen? (according to your ONLY suggestion?
Apologies as well if I sounded a bit rude, but if I read someone stating that there are no solutions in other ,even made sticky, threads than it is like telling someone that the knowledge of lots of people is **** and only YOUR solution is correct... Lets give the TS a help and hints and maybe we are both wrong, but at least we may figure it out step by step. I play PR since years, had it running on many machines and Operating systems, have set up Linux and Win Server for it and helped with creating some tools for it. That doesn'd mean that I know a solution for everyone and every problem, I only wanna say that even if I have lots of experience on support on this NOONE can tell THE ULTIMATE solution and thats why there are many, many threads and posts here which may or may not be good in your own eyes ;)

But most important for me: Does it work now for Gschuppstar1? I hope he didn't get a bad impression of our community now :D

I had the same problem, but when i started with these parameters "+modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen +szx 1440 +szy 900", its worked. So thanks [MoL]jaVi.
