Maybe need clean from dust a bit the place where laser is located. Sometimes mine optical mouse needs some clean. But if these still not help, than something wrong is with mouse pad.

I've never thought the Steelseries mousepads to be that good tbh, found most mice work worst on them than normal surfaces...

The best mousepad I've ever had, and still have (and using) for that matter for over 5 years now, is the Func F-Series F30.R mousepad, which is really nice, large and generally very good.

Its plasticish but works very, very well.
