Hey guys
My girlfriend is starting on her new study and she wants a new notebook since she only have a big clumsy laptop that isn't really suitable for transporting back and forth to school.
What she wants is a cheap 10" notebook, which is only going to be used to run office and accessing the internet.
Since I'm the tech geek I've promised her to help her out with this and I've found two really cheap notebooks that I think covers her needs:
Packard Bell DOT_SE/P-456NC specs
Acer Aspire One Happy specs
Both of them have almost the same specs and the price difference is almos zero.
I want to know what you guys think of these models or even if there are some of you guys that have experience with any of these models. Keep in mind that this is only notebooks for typing and browsing the internet so I guess it all really boils down to two things:
- Battery life
- Stability

Re: Notebook help
I was looking into these this morning. I have the original Asus EEE PC and the thing is finally starting to fall apart I've used it so much. It's too bad they've started to move away from putting SSD drives in them, in favor of the larger & slower SATA ones.
Out of those two options, I would go with the Aspire, it's dual core, and it comes in pink.

Re: Notebook help
So it's bought.. It's really nice and light and everything is working perfectly. One stupid thing that I didn't see about this netbook is that it comes with Windows 7 Starter and not just Windows 7 Home Edition or something like that. I know it is a really stupid thing to oversee but the damage isn't that bad because it still covers the need for my girlfriend.
But funny thing: The way we discovered that it was Windows 7 Starter that was running as OS was that we couldn't find a way to change the wallpaper. As it turns out; you CAN'T!!! Wtf!? I mean really?? That's just stupid lol.
Other than that it's seems to be a good buy.

Well, its netbook, so they expect you to internet only use. And yeah, Starter is sh*t. Home Edition would be much better.

Re: Notebook help
All the netbooks seem to come with starter editions. I suspect it's because when netbooks first came out they had a linux version and windows version, and everybody was buying the linux versions because they were $100 cheaper. I'd suggest formatting it and putting on a real OS. Better to do it now when its not full of stuff you want to keep.

Re: Notebook help
My little niece has a notebook with windows starter on and she asked me why she couldnt change the wallpaper.
So I looked into it and I found a video that showed you how to do it.
You have to download a program and then that lets you change the wallpaper to anything you would like it to be.
Type "how to change my wallpaper on windows 7 starter" into google
