no blood when shot?

Post by paul161616 »

hey everyone, i did a quick search but nothing showed up so im wondering why pr still has the white puff of smoke when you shoot someone in the head? or anywhere else for that matter. is there a reason this was left in, or was it just put way down on the to-do list? just wondering about it, thought it might be a good discussion

Why not just state the answer and go on your merry way?

Well, I don't know, I saw this discussion some time ago. But anyway, what I think makes sense is that, if there was blood, wouldn't the game rating be raised (thus probably violating the agreements to mod the game)?
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

Can't be. They're modding Arma 2, which has copious amounts of blood and surface wounds.

Unless you mean the rating be raised above that of the vanilla game? If so, maybe.

No they said it would not be realistic for blood to be flying out of blufor soldiers that have body armor on. It just wouldn't happen. For the insurgents/militia it would be different but i don't think they can change it for specific factions. I'm not 100% sure on this but this is what i heard.

From what I remember its because BF2 is a Teen Rated game.
They can surely do it if they wanted to but this mod is for teens to adults.

A teen rating game from 2005 had no blood iirc.

Ah yes, THAT was the reason! I remember now.

I think OP means in BF2.

There's two reasons.

The main reason is that the red puffs would be much more easily visible over long distances. With the crappy hit detection of BF2, this means that people'd be certain that they hit the target when they haven't, because the blood effect is created locally, while the actual bullet impact happens server-side. So the blood effect might appear at a different place than the server decides the shot actually is placed (because the server has more information about the movement of other players than your local computer, for instance). To make these errors less visible, the impact effect on soldiers looks pretty much exactly like the impact effect on many objects and terrain surfaces.

The other reason (or justification to calm down people :p ) is the stuff with the body armour. It IS possible however to have different effects for different body parts (the Stargate: La Rel?ve mod had the Jaffa armour create a riochet effect and heatshots all bloody), so the body armour thing is probably not the main reason, as it would be possible to have headshots and shots against unarmored targets (like the Tau'ri in afore mentioned other mod) produce different effects.

Still, the hit detection issue remains, which is why blood effects have been taken out of the game again (after initially having been introduced by PR, so the M rating stuff is clearly NOT the reason).
In other news, this is a suggestion in disguise :p

As others have mentioned this has been discussed before. Please see Spec's post for a full explanation.

The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "
