Soo, in this thread I want to discuss the usage of CAS vehicles.

Lets take for example the Cobra in Muthrah.

When I get the CAS squad on Muthrah I get NO lases, and have to do cobra dives in the wild, while my team is getting mowed down in the city. I ask my team every 5 mins "Laze stuff if your in trouble" but they prefer do die then letting the Cobra help them. When I am a squad leader I have the initiative of lazing enemies - less exposure - 38 hydras to the face are more efective then bullets.

So bottom line is - Use your assets, dont let the jets rot in the main, an dont let the cobra in the essex too! Before lazing, watch for AA and rain hell!!!!

Completely agree. This is probably one of those few rare occasions I ADMIRE sniper spotter squads as they are set to laze and most of the time are at a good vantage point (mountains)

Yeah, people engage themselfs instead of using CAS. They call CAS after their squad have died couple times.

This is why I prefer having spotter in the squad.

Totally agree Vista but in order to Laze on Muttrah safely you need to be a bit back from the frontlines and have your squad keeping you safe whilst doing so.

So so often the moment I try to laze it all gets too hot.

On open maps it's easier to find the time.

When i am a Jet or attack helo pilot in game
i like those infantries,who give detailed information of target.
If one sniper spoted FOB on map,A good one will take out the AA,then lase the target and say:AA down,or when he spoted AA,and he cant take it out,he will lase the aa and told the pilot the best direction to approach the target.
Map with cobra Muthrah city.The city do give good cover to MEC's apc. Yesterday,one of my friend helped us destroyed the MLTB hide in one street where we cant spot lase and apc itself,

Which server do you play on? If you want teamwork, it usually cant be achieved with pubbies, unless they are all veterans. Try to become a regular on a server, teamwork will be far better. I had an airstrike called in on Vehicle outpost on the maps silent eagle and it got sprayed by the mix and havoc, good times.

I play on MeRk, *NWA*, =]H[= but mostly on NwA due to 80% of people being on mumble and better teamwork overall.

I think this can be related to people wanting to do something themselves. I know it's -easier- and safer to call in CAS to blow up some troops, but if you're in the heat of things you want to shoot some enemies and have the feeling you're contributing. This is a game after all, and you're playing it for your amusement. In real life, where you could die if you'd not call in CAS, hell yeah call in some support.. This however is a game, and if your amusement comes from putting a green rectangle on some static object be my guest, but it's not my kind of fun

Please, believe me when I say this. It has always and will forever be this way. The very concept of an SL doing something to help a pilot is so totally out of reference that you're more likely to see a double rainbow than get a random, useful laze from an SL who will tell you less than five minutes later.

1)The only effective CAS is CAS with in-squad spotters.
2)People hate pilots. The depth of this hatred literally cannot be described in words, it is beyond expression, hence
3)You are totally on your own within your squad. Alone, and unsupported.

Keep those three things and mind and you'll be effective.

So rather than typing in Teamchat 'laze targets for Cobra guize' (which sounds very similar to a lonewolf attitude), get in SL chat and ask who needs support. As a SL I love having a pilot with good comms available, it's the Concrete Donkey special move available to Inf.

I am on mumble everytime I am on heavy assets, and I play on NWA most of the time, due to a large number of people on mumble

First off, I think that is a good thread cause it could bring people together. Therefore I hope you guys understand what I want to say below and answer my questions.

I personally have, as usual, a mixed mind about that matter... - lol, I am so double-sided all of the time. ops:

- Personally I only play as INF like 99% of the time, therefore I hate people (with assets and even INF) wasting "my" tickets...while I rip my legs out to get that single schnuck up on his feet again together with my medic instead of him respawning and costing 1 single ticket.
For me, that is where the "omg the noobzors lost insert asset here" attitude comes from

- Often enough as soon as you have contacts worth calling the CAS (or other support for that matter) the sheet hits the fan...so I just don't have/take the time to do all necessary steps to guide the support in. OC it is quiet easy to set mortar marker and let them do their thing but compared to that, all the "come from here and there; having the marker on the target when the CAS arrives" - hustle is much more difficult to knit into my flow of the game.

- To be honest, I am not sure if my Laze is working correctly all the time and if I do it right...
1. I take out my binos
2. I select target and/or read distance
3. I set the distance and set CAS marker
(I do that so that the CAS guy has a general idea of the area and so that other people
know what is going on)
4. I set the laze itself by left-clicking the target once so that my green square is on it.

and there is my problem: first my square doesn't stick always on my target; it just disappears again...sometimes at least. Second idk how long the marker sticks automatically - could I put my Binos away again or will the lase then disappear?

- If I have to laze again and again it means that I am exposed to the enemy all the time it takes the CAS to drop his stuff. I for one prefer to look at it, mark it, get in cover and set map-marker and then GTFOut ASAP!

- OC most of the above gets a little bit easier with mumble but even then it isn't that easy cause I have to block SL-channel as long as it takes to work it out with the CAS squad. Either that or other SLs keep interrupting... Just so you all know: I love mumble, no question about that, but this topic especially asks about a huge mumble update in the future...!

- btw a "CAS-worthy target for me is 1. TANK 2. APC 3. HMG 4. TOW...anything else I often try to get myself...probably total BS behavior but like people said: It is a game, I am a god at it, I wanna kill stuff from time to time

- From time to time I had wonderful rounds when we "used" the CAS too but they were few...

Lazing targets while being the squad-leader of a six-man squad is easier said than done, especially if you're playing with people you don't know.

Vehicles:
A map like Muttrah (urban) is very tight, there are many streets, and enemy vehicles are moving fast. Most likely you'll only have audio on the APC, but if you're lucky enough to see it, it will probably see you. If it sees you, you'll get suppressed, and everybody knows it's very hard to laze targets while not being able to see it.

Infantry:
Every good squad-leaders knows running out in the open with a full squad is just like asking to get wiped out. Therefore, the infantry will be in a building (most likely the T's). Killing infantry with 30mm, Hellfires or Hydras when they're spread out in a building is hard, if not impossible.

Anti-Air:
Often placed on roofs. Can a infantry on the ground see on top of roofs? No. Ergo; no laser.

Now, I know what you'll think: Get someone up high, like the mountains! I do agree, but what pretty much every spotter does wrong (there are exceptions!) is going up there, finding the tallest hill of all, and lay down.
You'll see that spotter from miles away, as it looks like he's "floating" in the air, due to the rendering(?) of the map.
This makes it easy for the enemies to either call in mortars on him, or just suppress him.

So, what I'm actually trying to say, is giving CAS targets on Muttrah is actually harder than some people think.
Mumble helps a lot, but if the Cobra crew depends on lazers all the time, it is hard.

The only effective CAS is CAS with in-squad spotters.

This is what pilots need to learn.

The best way to do it is have a 2 men recon element working together with CAS. One spotter and one support, preferably medic. Contrary to popular belief you don't need to be a sniper to spot targets, being an officer will do just fine.
On most maps this will result in a 4-6 men CAS squad with 2 members on the ground and the rest in the air. They can also take turns flying so the spotters won't get bored.

Also there is this cool new toy that lets you see a huge part of the battlefield and it can even laze targets without being seen or shot down!
Too bad it's ridiculously underrated at the moment.
