New to PR: Need some help!
- Cant load into a game -
- Microphone wont work in game but does work for mumble -
Hey guys, I used to play Bf2 back in 2008ish and decided to go back to it. Found PR on youtube and it looked absolutely amazing.
I downloaded
BF2
Bf2 special forces
patch 1.41
patch 1.5
PR - newest version
I have a HP dv5 - 2045dx and it runs battlefield 2 just fine. I can get PR to start, i can upload servers but when i try to get into games the loading time takes forever if it even loads. I tried to get into one game, went to bed and 6hrs later the game only loaded 14%. I tested my ping and it was high teens low twenties. The connection is direct 100Mbps and only one other computer is on but doesnt really eat up that much bandwidth
As for the microphone, it doesnt work ingame but it does work for mumble so i am not too worried since it seems like everyone uses mumble.
I know enough about computers to get myself around and figure things out but by no means tech savy. Any and all help is and will be appreciated.

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
Special Forces isn't required, otherwise the order is absolutely correct, nothing here that looks like the source of the problem.BF2
Bf2 special forces
patch 1.41

As for your computer, I don't know the specific details about it now, but after a quick google search it doesn't seem as bad as taking days to load a map. I played PR with a worse system. It does have a lot higher hardware requirements than BF2 though - perhaps it was map related? How often did you try it? Hosting LAN games works?
As for the mic, you'll need it to work ingame. Mumble is a great aid, but most of the chat still happens though ingame-VoIP. Are you sure it doesn't work? How did you test it exactly, and what happens?
Anyway, I hope you'll get it to work, and welcome to the forums! If you need any further help getting into the game and such, we're eager to give you a good start. There's even a new player training program that you could participate in once you got PR to work.

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
yeah, im still trying to play around with it in order to get it to work. When i tried to set up my mic for bf2 it would not register in the audio test. I looked around and some of the suggestions were to set it to your main device. I tried that and still no go. I've seen some problems linked to window 7s and mics for bf2 so im not sure if that is it. Hopefully the problem doesnt translate over to PR.
As for the server, ive tried a few so far in coop as well as pvp but no luck yet. I look forward to training and familiarizing myself with the system and gameplay style before jumping into an actual match.
thanks for the help, ill keep at it.

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
My mic set up never works, but VOIP works fine. Sometimes pressing the VOIP PTT for 30 seconds brings it on line.
I'm no tec but your comp spec looks OK (i3 4GB RAM) but can a integrated VGA deal with PR OK?
Have a good search on the technical support section for maps won't load and see:

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
Try loading into a BF2 server and see if that's an issue. If it loads in fine, try creating a local PR game, see if it works. Report back

Played some games on bf2 just fine. Even servers with 60 players with no lag. I'll make a local pr game now and see if it works or not.

As for the mic issue btw, don't worry. The mic setup program doesn't work for me either, ingame it works just fine

as for trying to create a local match in coop it didnt really work. I waited around 2hrs for only 3% to load. What is the average loading times you guys get so i can have something to compare it to.
Thanks for the input so far though, it's been helpful.

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
Load time shouldn't be more than a minute or two, at most. I've no idea why it's taking that long for you. Maybe some sort of background programs eating a lot of RAM?

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
So i did a little test to see what my cpu usage was during the time i was trying to load a map and it only was around 22-30ish% and that was with explorer running to make this post. This has me truly stumped and it seems like the guy who made the other thread had the same exact problem. (check the link one of the guys posted earlier)
I hope I can find a solution, this game looks awesome and same with the community of players.
I'm tired of lone wolf style gaming for fps. Maybe i'll pick up arma but they dont have the pvp style that im looking for.
alright guys back to the drawing board.
I already uninstalled everything and reinstalled it with no luck. Next im going to try and uninstall the game and try to reload it with a different source. Is it possible that one of the files could be corrupted?

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
The CPU likely isn't the problem, neither should RAM be, as you have 4 GB of that... Video RAM perhaps? How powerful is the card?
Corrupted files are always a possibility, but that is more likely going to result in crashes rather than longer loading times...

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
I don't think Video Ram would have an effect, it would either page to memory or just crash, and shouldn't have an effect on loading time. CPU shouldn't be affecting it, since it's the Hard drive which is doing all the work.
What antivirus have you got, I know I used to have problems with AVG occasionally chugging in game and causing temporary freezes. Anti Virus is one of the only things I can think of which could cause slowdowns/errors without crashing the game.
I think it's unlikely a hardware issue, so it's a question of what software could be causing problems. Try updating graphics drivers, since they do play a bit of a role in the loading. Otherwise are there any thirty background programs which could be interrupting things? Also update punkbuster, that also has a way of causing mysterious and random problems

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
Make sure your Windows 7 and Graphics drivers are all up date, and make sure you are running PR as "administrator".
Even if the whole "administrator" doesn't help in this bit, Always run PR and Mumble as "admin" as it will bypass problems. EVERY TIME.
Welcome to PR. If you get frustrated by the learning curve just sit tight, once you get the hang of it and play a good game you will be wetting your pants in joy

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
Ye, it might be anti virus software, that's probably is most plausible, but still, it seems pretty weird that it'd not affect vBF2's loading times....
How long does a normal BF2 map take to load for you, OP?

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
Great
Welcome to PR then!
If you need any further help, you can get someone to help you get into all important aspects of the game here. I also made this video for threads like this; if you have time to spare and want to learn all important aspects of regular infantry work, it might be helpful too. It's best to learn by playing though, so best hop into a server (assuming you've read the manual) and join a good squad. If you're unhappy with a squad, noone forces you to stay there, of course, sometimes it takes a while to find the right squad leader who is willing to help out a new player
Enjoy your stay!
Oh, and your mic works in-game, yes? Make sure it does, it's pretty much required to play properly. Which doesn't mean you shouldn't run mumble as well of course

Re: New to PR: Need some help!
regarding the microphone problem: make sure you plug in your mic BEFORE you load pr. also, RAM is very important to loading and playing PR. get a few gigs of RAM.
