Racing Wheel

Does anyone know if you can use a racing wheel with BF2? I would like to use one when driving
a humvee through Kokan :D

Dont know in BF2 but it works in Arma 2( you posted here) funny thing in Arma2 force feedback also works... in the trucks it vibrates a lot when pushing the gas just like in real life.

I am pretty sure you can. I remember using one a couple of years ago. Not sure if it works on the newest patches, though. Why don't you just try it? :)

I configured my joy stick for all vehicles (for driving Armor) without digging through codes so I'm sure you could get a wheel to work. I'm positive the pedals would work and I'm confident the wheel would too, the only thing is you can't control the 'dead zone', 'force feeback' (I doubt bf2 supports force feedback) and all those settings without digging through codes... and maybe even then that isnt possible.

Yes, it works pretty good for the wheeled vehicles, the tracked ones are a bit tough to use it with. I used to use a wheel all the time back in 0.8ish when the bikes didn't lean, I could drive the **** out of them with the wheel, people would actually freak out and think I'm going to crash when they got a ride.

The only downside (besides the wheel on your desk when on foot) is that you need to use the mouse to look around, which is a bit of the pain since the view seems to move around on its own. So you end up driving with one hand and the other hand on the mouse. And of course there is no force feedback in BF2 and the deadzones need to be setup in your wheels configuration rather than in BF2.

Although the steering isn't easy on the tracked vehicles, having a gas pedal is great, you can even move slow and smooth enough to allow the gunner to fire on the move. I wouldn't mind getting a standalone pedal set, so I can use just the analog pedal with the keyboard steering.

I was thinking about doing this the other day, i got one a while ago for GT with the PS3... but if you want to just use the analogue pedals, why not use the throttle on your joystick (if you have one) for it instead? I've just set my steering up to use the twist on the stick as my steering and the throttle as the... erm, throttle.

Works quite well actually.

There was a thread a while ago that let you use the joystick to control tank turrets or gunship weapons systems and i got it to work, but then i had to reset my controls and i lost it... it was awesome but i can't remember how to do it... :(

I did this with my steering wheel a while ago, it works. But the peddles can be irritating as it's hard to get the vehicle to a complete stop. You always start gliding away when in idle, at least for me. You might be able to fix that issue though but it sure is fun to drive with a wheel and peddles. Gives much more control steering and speed wise.

I did this a while ago, but got annoyed with the steering wheel on my desk :P made it a bit awkward when i wasn't in a vehicle, as it went infront of my keyboard.. But it was fun and good, not particularly useful, but fun all the same xD.

Just make sure you split the throttle controls, I know BF2 used to think that the accelerate pedal was both accelerate + reverse, and to make it stop, it had to be centred. Found a setting in the logitech profile to stop that though, and all was dandy
