What this green circle is and what it mean? Thanks.

Re: Interface question
Think it's supposed to be some sort of stabilization aid.... It's useless though, I never pay attention to it, it seems to behave pretty much completely randomly.

Re: Interface question
its the ghost in the machine
Random segments of code that have grouped together to form unexpected protocols. Unanticipated, these free radicals engender questions of free will, creativity, and even the nature of what we might call the soul. Why is it that when some robots are left in darkness, they will seek out the light? Why is it that when robots are stored in an empty space, they will group together, rather than stand alone? How do we explain this behavior? Random segments of code? Or is it something more? When does a perceptual schematic become consciousness? When does a difference engine become the search for truth? When does a personality simulation become the bitter mote... of a soul?
Nah, I actually don't have any idea, though it does seem to pop up around the same time you are at the safe speed to land.

Re: Interface question
It comes when you are hovering. Think its some stabilisation aid like spec said. It goes away when you are in complete hover and comes back when you are "slipping" so might well be.

Re: Interface question
Its a hovering aid, when your in a somewhat stead hover it will appear to help you keep you in your hover and shows your lateral movement.
Its a little tricky to get the hang of thou.

It's there since vBF2 and is absolutely useless.

Re: Interface question
I would say useless. Just look at your speed and altitude instead.

Re: Interface question
I just wanted to test it, but suddenly the Huey and Cobra (tested it on Muttrah) both didn't have the thing at all anymore? o.o
Was that changed? Or is it just buggy or something? I never trusted that thing, not even in vBF2. When I hover, the circle thing either isn't there at all or everywhere but in the center... I still hover just fine. But just to make sure I didn't miss anything I wanted to test it, and... well, no circle at all. Not while starting, not while landing, not while hovering, not while flying... I tried for about 15 minutes and gave up.

Re: Interface question
Here's what happens. When you enter a hover the little thingie will pop up on your hud. The thingie tells you the spot where you originally entered the hover. It tells you how your drifting in relation to the original spot you hovered in. When you take off you start in a hover. Then as you move forward the octagon drifts down, Indicating that your moving forward from that spot.
Think of it like if you were seeing it from top down. When you start hovering thats where the spot shows up on the ground. when you start drifting that spot stays at the same place while you move of in some other direction. So if you start drifting straight forward, pull back a bit on the stick and drift back to that spot. It's basically to help you stay in one spot while your hovering.

Tried to do that, crashed.[R-DEV]AncientMan wrote:Keep the green circle in the middle of the HUD, and you will be hovering.

Re: Interface question
problem with speed is that you do not know what direction your speed is going in. You could be flying backwards and to the right and your speed will still have a positive number. Your speed is only useful when it reads "0", although it can be reading "0" and you can still be moving a little (which could turn into a lot if not corrected). If you can't use the HUD then a reference point is best, although really the HUD option is a fall back when you do not have any good reference points anyways... And the altitude meter is used w/e your doing

Also, I've never realised that green circle was actually used for something

Re: Interface question
Honestly, I can hover without any problem. When I do, the green circle thingy is doing whatever it wants to do, it's not centered but I'm still hovering. When I try to 'follow' it, I just end up speeding off in a random direction.

I've never used it. It resets itself, and trying to use it complicates things.Spec wrote:Honestly, I can hover without any problem. It's easier to fly without thinking about the "ghost"
