Since this is still alive, I just wanted to throw Clevo out there one more time. Most people haven't heard of them, but they are rebranded into a lot of "custom" laptops, like Eurocom, Sager, etc. Good build quality, awesome cooling systems, upgradeable, and some of the best price/performance ratio of any notebook. I've got one now and I'll be buying a new 15"er with a 7990 or whatever is out when the Ivy Bridge models are released.

So any new updates on good gaming laptops chaps?

Obviously Alienware are sexy but would rather get good value for money as well. Budget of +/- 1500 pounds to spend!

The one UK Force linked me is great. Plays everything on mostly high(est) settings. The only game Ive had issues with slow down is Mirrors Edge... It happens when the shit hits the fan and glass starts breaking, etc. I dont know why because it even happens on medium settings... but other times the game runs beautifully at highest settings with full AA.

But other than that, the laptop is great

Out of those, the MSI is the best(although it does look the worst :S), it has a 570M GPU (which is pretty damn good for a laptop) and a new Intel 2630QM (quad, with 8 threads) CPU, which is plenty good enough for any modern game. So that'd be the one out of that lot there, and for the money pretty much. You may want to take a look at the latest ASUS G series laptops, the ones with the new SB i7-2xxxQM CPU's, as these perform better than the old(for obvious reasons).

Just to note, Don't expect more than 1 hr unplugged for even internet browsing from these machines, more desktop replacements :P .

Yeah I know the battery life is going to suck but its more the fact that moving to Dubai there is no way im bothering to ship out my tower, 22" monitor and sound system. Ill just plonk a nifty laptop in my appartment and use my ipad when out and about!

Opinions on Dell outlet for grabbing a cheap refurb or dented Alienware laptop?

Im now going back in and want a laptop for the obvious reasons.

I have looked at the one Force posted and I like it but is there anything else?
I just want a plain looking one but on the inside has powerful hardware.

Dell Factory Outlet
I wouldn't go for either of those, main reasons being, theyre more expensive than those on ebay, less equipped than those on ebay, and the resolution is oly 900p, and for a 17 inch laptop thats poor.. I have a 13 inch sony and it has that resolution. So I still say the MSI is the most powerful out of your choice.

The RX3 are 1920 x 1080 though you have to adjust the options on the left. They just look so sexy! lol.

the GFX card is probably the best you will get in that price range. Normally you'd get a 560M, but that laptop goes a step up, and will most likely be able to run most games on highest. Its around the same performance (in benchmarks) as a desktop 460GTX

Even though the benchmark results are similar, I wouldnt expect to see the same results in game as a desktop counterpart, plainly because the desktop has more power at its disposal.

Also remember these will be Very heavy, not something you could for instance, take in and out to Uni everyday, it'd become a huge burden. They can run very hot, im not 100% on the temps of the MSI, but a notebook cooler maybe required. Check some reviews of it, most do battery and heat tests.

If you are not going to be lugging it around, I'd suggest a desktop, for the same price you can get a lot more performance.

My issue is that I can't realistically take a Desktop to Dubai so need a gaming laptop that will almost always stay in the apartment and if I come home, can bring it back with me but generally speaking it wouldnt move much. The alternative is buying an all new system out there but then there is the issue of price, and bringing it back!

have you considered dismantling your PC down to its core parts, dumping the case and possibly a few other things like the PSU, DVD drives etc and taking all the essential stuff out there, then buying a new case (and any other stuff you didn't take) in Dubai and reassembling it all back together there?

Biggest part would be the mobo but still, wouldn't be impossible to take?

I'm looking at similar gaming laptops as you have seen posted on this thread.

Be wary of the new GTX 560M line of mobile GPUs for the following reason:

G74SX 560M (12 8) vs G74SX-A1 560M (192) ...the A1 is going to be 12 to 17% faster in most newer games. It's a huge increase considering that boost might make the laptop useable for another year on the back end.

ASUS Gaming Notebook Forum Discussion forum for ASUS G-series notebooks (G73, G53, etc).
560M (12 8) vs 560M (192)
560M (12 8) vs 560M (192)

GTX 560m 128bit 2GB vs 192bit 1.5GB ???
GTX 560m 128bit 2GB vs 192bit 1.5GB ??? - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

I've decided to wait another two paychecks and buy the 15.6" Asus with the 192 GTX560M 1.5GB and figure the prices might drop again in the next weeks.

Im going back in the army so im going to sell my desktop pc that I built this year and get a decent laptop for the obvious reasons.

Its giving me a headache though with all this info on laptops and they're completely different than desktops. I have not got a clue with laptops.

So getting a laptop with the GTX 560m is a bad idea?
Them links you posted LITOralis.nMd did'nt make sense to me lol.

I just want a decent enough laptop to run BF2 :P R and BF3 and maybe COD:MW3 in the future.
Not really that botherd about Arma2 settings as I hardly play it.

It depends which 560M you get, there are two versions now (as there are with the desktop, being Ti and standard), one 560m has a 192bit wide memory bus, the other 128bit. The 192bit will obviously be the faster 60GB/s compared to 40GB/s bandwidth, even though it has less capacity. So look for 1.5GB models.

Anything above a 560m will run PR, BF3 and many future games reasonably well, probably not on high detail, you probably have to go into 580M SLI for that :P , but probably medium

Or you could get a laptop with an MXM slot and just replace the GPU when you want a new one rather than having to live with the one that's soldered to your motherboard...

Just sayin'

So the Gfx card in this laptop is good enough then
