No one has mic's anymore?

Post by mattnett1 »

Ok, there is only 2 reasons I joined PR.
1.The community is pretty decent.
2.I thought everyone Teamworked and wasn't stupid.

Jesus it's stupid how no one has mics anymore, and NO ONE is on mumble, except Tactical Gamer. This is really making me mad. It's stupid...

If you are new to PR read this.
I am not saying this against you. You are new and you don't really know what you need. But the SL and players will tell you to get a mic. Believe me. I picked up a $8 Stand Up PC mic from Walmart because I didn't have one. And believe me. It helped.

Here is my record when I didn't have a mic.

Wins/Loss's

When I didn't:
9/24

When I did:
19/3

The 3 Loss's was because this one dude said he was the best heli flyer of all time. Right when he lifted up he crashed into 2 Logies, 4 Hummer. We died. He TK'ed our whole team. So yeah what does that tell you?
He wasted at least 5 assets in 10 minutes. He kept jumping out of the chopper and parachuting.

Well Back on topic.

PEOPLE GET A MIC

It's stupid that no one uses their mic. i don't care if they are on mumble, I just care if they have a mic and use it.

Go to Radio Shack or even Walmart, they have cheap mics. Every store that sells electronics has mics.
Don't be a noob, don't be a jerk.

Be a MAN.

on NWA there are a lot of people with Mics and mumble.... maybe start your own squad, do mic checks and if they dont respond, kick them!

I seriously don't understand these kind of posts in PR forums. Why?
First, because we, the part of community that lurks in PR forums, all (with exception: haters, people with tech problems) know that Mumble rocks and have heard it countless times in countless posts. And we totally agree with you - it's sad to see people not using Mumble. Anyway, the truth is that PR Mumble nowadays actually are used more than ever, so don't worry (or playing when PRTA/NwA/Sisu is off).
Second, I think that people who aren't using mumble mostly even won't read your post because they probably don't follow the threads in this forum. And that's a bit sad, because I learned from reading about PR gameplay more than I learned from my ingame mistakes/experiences.

This is what I always do, if they do not have a mic and i call my squad MumbleInf/VoipINF I kick them, but you should ask 2-3 times just to make sure they have a mic, sometimes they don't respond the first time
Its SO evil, it may actually encourage EA to support Modding again - Pantera

As much I agree with you is this thread completely useless for obvious reasons Mouthpiece already posted.

join/create squads called '<insertwhatever>VOIP' and you'll generally have an easier time finding mic-enabled people, but yeah - more mics = more fun.

Noticed this also,Before I say anything I must say I cant use a mic for personal reasons never have probably never will. But I do know what I'm doing and always type when possible.Witch in turn limits me to only playing infantry grunt rolls.

Before it seemed like it was just me who was silent, now I can join a full 6man squad that is silent SL included. It makes game play near impossible and said squad are always scattered on different corners of the map.

Its not so bad 1 or 2 in a squad being silent and not all of us are noobs but a SL with no mic is unacceptable and seeing it far to much.

Also love the fact the consensus in this thread is if you don't use a mic you don't use these forum's and the thread is pointless.

+1

The people who don't use mics, generally don't use the forums either, and aren't the most computer literate. Either way it is a useless thread... But, I like your enthusiasm, hopefully more servers get around to pushing it onto their players; that's really the best you can hope for.

TOPIC IS NOT ABOUT YOUR HARD-ON FOR MUMBLE, ITS ABOUT PLAYERS NOT HAVING MICROPHONES FOR VERBAL COMMUNICATION AT ALL... :-x

I almost made a list of reasons why I don't run Mumble but I'll stick to some reasons why you might not hear people:
  • Playing at night and I don't want to wake people. Even if I try to stay quiet, if I am also using headphones too, I end up shouting without realizing it.
  • I'm mic shy, even though I am not shy in person.
  • It took a while for me to figure out how to connect my mic to my computer. It's not easy in Windows. I have a computer science degree and a masters in user interface design and it took a while to figure out how to get my USB mic to not conflict with the input on my SoundBlaster card and my motherboard.
  • Sometimes I'm tired and don't want to talk.
  • Some people don't speak English well. For instance, when I go on to a Chinese server, I sort of understand (Mandarin), but I don't know the word for mic, and trying to tell SL that is even harder. Try playing there or perhaps on the Brazilian server if your Mandarin is too good.
And then, even if you get everyone to use their mics, you might regret it.
  • Mic may be tuned improperly and is inaudible or painful.
  • Then you have the problem of radio protocol and crowding the line. I prefer people type because I don't always catch what was said or it was said in an accent. Or they need to go to Toastmasters and learn how to talk.
  • Some of your squadmates might turn out to be women or children. I don't like the idea of children playing Project Reality and besides I don't want any filthy urchins breaking the mood with their chipmunk voices.
If you are going to kick someone, pls at least give them time to realize you're a mic only squad and if you have to kick, pls apologize directly to them over typing. (they may have turned off VOIP to avoid annoying chatty people)

Gentlemen

Please do not turn this into a mumble discussion, there are plenty of those already.

If you have an issue with another user's post (e.g. it is OT) Please use the moderating options -> report post, otherwise you invite further derailment.

Mumble is great for communication and stuff it's just that hearing people's voices makes me feel like such a loser for playing this game.

Well, you wont win this game without proper communication. Mumble gives you this.

Your playing the wrong game then to be honest, PR players should strive for (constructive) communication

All of that is very well and good, but to echo what Gazz said, if you don't want to communicate or can't communicate via a mic for whatever reason, be they technical, personal or even language issues you are playing the wrong game (or possibly in the wrong places in the case of language.)

It sounds harsh, and in some cases it probably is unfair, but if you cannot communicate over voice comms you are directly impacting the quality of the community, and of the gameplay. Good communication is everything, and text is an unbelievably poor substitute for VOIP.

However! As I was trying to explain to this almighty Sax!

We do also have a deployment server, though we mainly use that one for clan trainings / scrims etc..
