BF3:PR

Post by Warfighter »

Hey guys,

I searched the forums but I didn't find anything regarding this, so I'm just going to ask. Is Project Reality going to create a mod for BF3?

And before mis-informed people say "There is no mod support" let me say something. It was denied that mod support would be available due to the complexities of the engine. Now they are saying that its a possibility, and from what I hear it most likely will happen.

BF2 back in the day they said was "too complex" and there were no mod tools for the first few months.

Anyways, PR mod coming to BF3 by any chance?

The devs already confirmed that there wont be a BF3 version because they are swarmed with PR BF2 and ArmA2 along with the PR2 project.

I would only play it if it could handle maps bigger than 4km.

The information given out to the public has been sort of ambiguous. Its a big maybe. Upon an interviewer asking DICE if they were going to make mod tools, they said no, but later they said maybe.

Here's my thoughts:
If BF3 goes anything like BF2, there will be years of updates and downloadable content, just like call of duty, deus ex, civ 5, and a few other recent games which still make a fortune off downloadable content.
Since BF2, DICE have upgraded their engine and to finance these upgrades, they have been releasing games. These game were neither good nor bad, they were what was expected from an experienced game development studio.
BF3 however is a God of a game, and will acquire millions of players who (if it is anything like BF2) will rival the population of World of Warcraft.

If the Mod scene is able to coax PC internet experimentalists with outdated engines. then imagine what a mod like project reality could do with the frostbite BF3 mod tools and some console support.

Steps have been made onto other platforms and Mods and Indie games are becoming more and more popular slowly (CSS, L4D, minecraft) and this notoriety may escalate exponentially.

Sooner or later a rich guy with power in the games community will play PR and say...Hey, these guys have got something going on.

Even if the PR Devs definitely wanted to make PR:BF3, as you noted mod tools for BF3 are only a possibility (and maybe not even that).

Welcome to the forum, Warfighter!

As has been said, there are currently no plans for a Battlefield 3 Project Reality mod. Since there's been a fair share of threads regarding this question (admittedly hard to find with the search function as "Battlefield 3" and "Project Reality" are extremely common terms on the forum), I'm going to lock this one. If there is any further need for discussion of Battlefield 3 mod support (not specifically PR:BF3), this thread would be the place to go, and already contains some information and thought about mod support.
