Weapon drop

Post by keef_haggerd »

I don't know if this has been suggested in the forums yet, well i think i may have mentioned it, but i think it deserves its own thread, but in COD realism mods they had it so if you got shot in the hand you drop your weapon. now COD focuses more on infantry combat while BF focuses on infantry and armoured fighting. so i think it would be a cool feature, but i dont know if it would be that useful.

Wasnt there a topic on this in the past, something like it atleast on the effects of getting shot, such as a decrease in accuracy, running ability and so on. :? :

lots of them.

but this is a new idea....but it can't work to well with the current system of kits.

if it were possible to somehow code it so you lose your gun whe nshot in the hand, you'd lose your entire kit, the way bf works. we have to figure out how to get weapons as individual things and get away from kits...

Yeah that wouldnt be good, losing everything in the midst of combat, you would be like a chicken with it's head cut off, it's only a matter of time before you die.

yeah, probably isnt a good idea then, just a though, it worked well in COD, but like I said thats a much different game. you guys mentioned accuracy is lost, maybe when you get shot your little accuracy arrows shoot out and slowly pull back in?

if a firearm gets shot, it probably wont work, small arms arent indestructable by any means.

anyone seen the video on TV where a police sniper shot a pistol out of a guys hand? that gun didnt make it through the ordeal

again taking someones weapons away from them while realistic might not be great for gameplay

If it were possible to do, I'm all for it. It's way more realistic, adds that cool little random probability in, where you actually have to run and hide till you can go back to base and get a new weapon, use your secondary weapon (or be a convincing distraction)

If it can be done it should be. Firstly, your hand is not a big target when compared to the rest of your body. Hell, you'd be better off shooting the personds head wich would be a bigger target. IRL if you get shot in the hand you're gunna drop the weapon, you should in a realsitic mod too. Red Orchestra had this, it was never a problem. It almost never happened, and when it did you could quckly pick your weapon up or go find a new one. It would by no means be a gameplay killer, if it could even make it in to the game.

and what if due to some sort of server lag or watever it happens alot, it might be neat the first time or so but if you drop it 5 or 6 times itd get old

how big are the hit boxes anyway could it be made to be that small?

as small as technically possible.

basically, way smaller than previous bf games. We will be able to shoot through legs and around limbs and such ( I was directly answered this after asking a dev on the game in a community interview)

PR can probably make it better.

I'd say don't doom it till you've tried it. I'd bet that in a year of playing bf games, ive been shot in the hand like... 10 times, maybe. It doesnt happen much, hands are way smaller than arms, and arn't as rewarding a target as a head. It would be yet another cool factor in the immerision, just one of those every present possiblities that makes you think this was real, it won't ruin gameplay if implemented right and i think the PR devs can do that.

yeah but they siad it would be very difficult to make a weapon drop, a single weapon, and not having the whole kit drop.

i think to remedy this maybe have the weapon "jam" or make it unusable. unless you hit the pick up key. something along those lines, and i think it would be a possibility.
