Re: To: PR:BF2 admins
It still relies on the admins wanting to do it. No offence web, as the prta server with forced mumble was awesome, but what happend? Please don't take that the wrong way. Was forcing mumble and having admins taking time out to do it lead to them not being arsed playing as they was spending more time admining mumble.Web_cole wrote:I on the other hand have some reasonable experience of itHaving been in charge of PRTA from about when it launched (mid - late 2010, I forget) to something like 5/6 months down the line I would say I'm qualified to comment on it. And obviously your right, its a *****. Admining a server anyway is a lot of work, if you add to that the task of keeping a server to 100% mumblers that is a LOT of extra work.
And most of the points you made earlier are good ones; it is kind of a **** move to kick someone after they've helped seed your server, dual screens is almost a necessity(not quite bit it really helps), and it does take it out of your admins.
But, here's the thing; we did it for half a year, with average administration, bad infrastructure ( <-- both my fault) and a rather small (but dedicated) admin team PRTA was, for a brief time, the best server in PR (not that I'm biased)
That's what 100% mumble will do for you.
Now I listed some of our problems, and some of the reasons why things didn't work out so great in the end, and here is the point I'm trying to make: NwA could do it if they wanted to. With an admin team capable of running 2 servers, a good solid organisational structure already in place and as Ploddit said something like a 75% mumble population I think if you guys wanted to you could do it and you could do it right.
Even just enforcing SLs on mumble SL radio can be a significant step up in organisation and teamwork.![]()
I'll take on board sl's must be in mumble may be that could work. Most players who have the skills to be effective squad leader are normally the types who use mumble or have the mindset to be able to iron out any issues.
one question that could be thrown at the general player population is. Has PR mumble reached a critical mass. Those that would use are and those that don't carnt be arsed?
how do we get the carnt be arsed on board?

Like I say, I think a large and well organised admin team could manage it well. But your right it still relies on admins wanting to do it.*NwA*Orford wrote:It still relies on the admins wanting to do it. I kinda think it might have done, or be close to it. Its obviously not a new idea, but it does seem like what's needed to carry it forward (and convince server admins to support it) is a new, more convenient, bug free, feature rich version.*NwA*Orford wrote: one question that could be thrown at the general player population is. I think it's important to not put too much work on to our admins.
We are gamers first admins second after all its playtime not worktime.

there is no this side or that side to anything i'm going on about, it's just a rant folks
asking more of, "hey try PR mumble edition out we use it" is not hard to do and if you take the offensive to that playing BF2

Just a ramble (grain of salt people) it's not the best idea to run a BF2
R server or more with just a few admins, but then again getting them all on track with the same good intentions is another thing. (imho)
I've never been an admin on BF2
R, but yes I've been an admin before
I've never been an admin on BF2

I do not have a problem with you personally, so that shouldn't be necessary.SmoothIsFast6 wrote:got a problem with me? e-mail me and we'll go from there
If that's the way it's going to be done, then it's okay. But this wasn't what you wanted people to do. You wanted the admins to enforce Mumble on their servers, which means everyone without Mumble wouldn't be able to play. As I said at the beginning of this thread, people are having issues with it, and that is why I'm against your idea/suggestion.asking more of, "hey try PR mumble edition out we use it" is not hard to do

TacticalGamer will never enforce the use of mumble, we encourage it but that is all. Mumble is a tool which when used correctly can enhance teamwork, it didn't invent it. TG had plenty of teamwork before mumble showed up, we used TS to supplement in game comms. Lets also not brush over the immaturity that mumble sometimes seems to encourage.

That is very true. But it also makes playing PR a lot funnier.A.Wickens wrote:Lets also not brush over the immaturity that mumble sometimes seems to encourage.

Exactly. Mumble makes PR a hundred times funnier. And better, of course.goguapsy wrote:Hell yeah! Many times I've chocked on air due to some mumble jokes!

100% agree, PR is almost a social game at its core (what is teamwork but a social interaction of sorts?) and mumble can and should be used to shoot the shit (in both senses
)

Re: To: PR:BF2 admins
@sax you don't need to be against it, i also said in the nicest way possible, if they don't want to enforce then don't personally i deffer. I feel like i'm helping the team to carry out good ops relaying good comms with mumble used by everyone correctly*
Also people are uber anger sometimes when shtf and they blame everybody this needs to stop they take it too seriously (even though i very much like when somebody just goes off in a rage over the internet
as for anybody reading this if you see me in the server join my team have mumble up and working and i'll show you the ropes to getting things done correctly

Smooth, I never said you asked for it in any wrong way. All I said (for the third time, now) was that I'm against your opinion, and since this is a forum, I can share my own opinions no matter what.
You're saying I don't have to be against it. Sure I don't. But guess what? I am.

Could you please give a short list of the bad things about mumble?saXoni wrote:...
Some positive things...
I have a hard time conceiving peoples grievances with it. personally I think it improves pretty much everything. And for those who don't use TS a lot or arnt familiar with the server groups, the squad leader channel and member channels organize this very well imo.
The audio clarity is very nice, i never get any crackling or popping, or muttering.
The options are basic and straight faward, and you can get the desired effect with minimal effort.
There are always admins on, so kicking grievers is easy. (although some of them are resilient)
And I dont use the auto voice detection its ****, it picks up breathing and pisses other people off.
I actually Prefer TS on the basis that its clan operated and controlled. But when it comes to PR, Mumble is defenitly best. I often find myself muting TS so i can hear and interact with mumble.
Basically, Mumble is already set up, and while TS can do the same thing, i dont want to look up TG's Ip addres every time or whatever, i already went to the bother of setting my mumble up.
