Yeah on a more serious note, I'm always running out of ammo since I started using suppressive fire.
This +1024^5. Seriously. I really really really REALLY want this - to make suppressive fire more effective! Come on, you've gotta get hit way too close to get suppressed!Conman51 wrote:Meh. i kind of agree. Suppression, is not only an effect its also an action... therefore- to make your suppression more effective you have to suppress more.
Ingame that translates to "shooting over there, where enemy was seen".
So stop talking about making suppressing effect more pronounced- just shoot more.

What I meant is increase the radius of effectiveness of the suppression effect. Many times I've been shot way to close for virtual comfort but was not "surpressed".Gotrol wrote:So stop talking about making suppressing effect more pronounced- just shoot more.

Exactly!
The truth is, more lead, even if it is a hella lot more inaccurate > Aimed, very slow fire.

More lead, but everybody needs to think that. If youre the only one doing something, enemy will get you with aimed shots, wich kinda sucks.

No it's real. An Average Marine/Army fighter has 6-10 magazines of ammo.
Pistol is VERY VERY low though. I remember my chopper went down in Mutrah and I had one clip left... I had to use it because I landed in a hostile filled house.

Re: Too much ammo?
1 mag = 1 kill in CQB with the full auto weapons for me.
1 mag = 2/3 kills everywhere else for me.
Generally the only people I know of in my squads running out of things is the medic (epipens) and the HAT/LAT. I've never understood people that run out of ammo for their rifle.
If you're firing inaccurate shots, all you are doing is highlighting your incompetence and excitement to the enemy, and wasting ammo (an accurate shot isn't a kill shot, but one that lands close enough to surpress [effect] or worry [scare] them).
Honestly, getting lots of rounds in the air is role-playing. In PR you can surpress somebody (in a T building for example) by firing one accurate shot every 20 seconds (or at their head when they pop up). Doing this you even kill them quite often.
The only people that are scared or deferential to lots of inaccurate fire in PR are new guys or Squad Leaders in charge of new guys. You learn very quickly what is worth repositioning for and what is a newb squad 'playing Hollywood'. Usually the fact that you are still alive after so much fire tells you exactly how inexperienced the enemy are (and how likely they are to zerg rush you when they stop).
Obviously there are times that you all get low on ammo, but then you need to factor that in as a good SL. It's still very rare to be like that and not have a crate nearby though, or a means of supply.
As a lone soldier, ammo is everywhere for your rifle.
As an off note, i'd be more than happy to halve the amount of rifle ammo each soldier carries. It would lead to much more tactical gameplay. And people would learn not to waste it (just like soldiers are taught not to during their training).

Sometimes, you just need a hail of fire to tell the enemy to get the hell down. Automatic fire does not mean a squad is in-experienced, unless it's just horrible spray fire with no tactical thinking.

On a 1K map, the ammo count is probably a bit high, since running from main base to combat isn't actually too long, but on all other map sizes the ammo is fine imo.
I routinely run out of ammo ingame (whenever I haven't arranged suitable support at least), and I'm a successful Squad member and squad leader.

Re: Too much ammo?
Typically now we're on the subject I just played Kokan as Canadian and came close to running out of ammo (we reloaded at an APC).
The guns in PR are so horribly inaccurate for anything but single, placed shots that in general it's a waste to use anything else (unless you are closing for the kill, an enemy stuck in an alley for instance, or firing at an enemy jeep). This applies to the AR as well, it's not for just firing rapidly, it's for groups of well aimed shots.
Archosaurus, to use your example, if your squad fires loads at me to tell me to get my head down then I probably will.. But i'll also know exactly where you are and what your probable plan of attack will be. If i'm disadvantaged generally a lot of heavy fire is my cue to reposition with no losses (losing the firefight).
What is generally of much worse consequence for my squad is if any of your guys fire concentrated well aimed shots and take one of my guys down.
That said some people plain do not know how to get out of the way so that might happen if you spam loads of rounds in.. But to me it still signals a much lower intensity danger.

My rule of thumb is
a) Is the enemy close by?
b) Do they see you?
c) Do they know you're there but don't see you?
If a is true, freguent shots are best. If a is false, aimed shots are best.
If b is true, suppression coupled with aimed shots is best. If b is false, waiting before firing, then firing well aimed shots in 2 second intervals till either a)The enemy die or b) They take cover/fire at you.
If c is true, wait for deviation to settle, aim for the upper body, shots in 1 second intervals.
These are not the best ways, they just work for me.

Re: Too much ammo?
I disagree, the way to not die is to use that ammunition realistically. which is to dump it on the enemy positions to keep their heads down. IRL in a combat environment we can be carrying up to 18 mags and be carry several boxes of additional ammunition in our day packs. Conservation of ammo is only a concern when logistics might be hard to acquire. other wise it is usually in your best interest to dump rounds on target.
he's cereal. i've done that before too. i think it was on Iron eagle where i played a round as the US (back when they were used as a placeholder for the Germans) and lead the team to victory without firing a single round. we capped 3 flags and lazed 2 APCs I never died, and the round lasted 2 hours.PoisonBill wrote:You cereal?

Re: Too much ammo?
I definately see both of your points, however I feel that if you don't kill one of the enemy or they are behind cover, inevitably all it takes is a smoke grenade and you have lost your advantage when they reposition.
It's all situational though, if you have them pinned down in a house or building then by all means get a lot of shots through the windows. But if the firing is haphazard and uncontrolled it can be easy for a good player to pop up and hurt one of your guys.
At the end of the day a good player is a good player, and can punch well above his weight in PR, which can be to your advantage if he's in your squad or to your disadvantage if he's not. We all instinctively know when playing PR usually how good our opponent is, even if he's only fired a few shots. In this case I just think that shots not well aimed generally don't scare an opponent or reduce his determination to fight back.
If it was a level playing field in terms of your squad vs enemy squad then I would agree that lots of fairly well aimed shots is a good thing. However generally a squad has one or two good shots/fighters and 4 guys who are basically ballast, and the two good players inevitably fire the 'kill' shots when everyone's surpressing. I just question the point of the other 4 going mad on the trigger.

I agree with Mike.
To add, suppression from MGs or just lots of rifles coupled with one or two guys who make the killshots is best.

Agree with mike, although i said dump rounds on target those shots should be timed and regularly spaced so you yourself can get into a good pattern. once you establish your pattern your shots land closer together and have a better suppressive effect on the enemy. Just whatever you do dont stop and wait for them to pop up to shoot. this is only giving them an opportunity to hurt you.
for me i relate it to drill movements. Bang 2-3- Bang 2-3- Bang 2-3, etc.

Well I ain't gonna lie - getting shot nonstop and with suppression effect, it really hinders my orders capability. What really scares me is a MG shooting at me - rifles are fine.Mikemonster wrote:I definately see both of your points, however I feel that if you don't kill one of the enemy or they are behind cover, inevitably all it takes is a smoke grenade and you have lost your advantage when they reposition.
