Project Reality 2

Post by =]H[= EasyAlpha »

Whats the status on this one guys? Can we expect to see it within the next 2 years, been a long while since it was announced that it was "possibly" underway.

In the PR2 FAQ, the devs commented that whenever they have something that is worth showing, they will show it. At the moment it'd just be lines of code, no visuals such as maps, models and gameplay.

Am I the only one wishing for PR2 to be more fast paced? I know this is not the right place to complain, but from my point of view PR:BF2 has taken it too far when you consider how long it takes to spawn and how far from the action you usually spawn and also how slow sprinting is. Loving the large maps though, I can't buy Battlefield 3 because its super small maps put me off from it.

IMO there are plenty of other games which cater for those requirements.

More incentive not to die... I've never had issue with the spawn time myself, I quite like the slower pace of combat, it's much more measured and gives you time to actually make tactical decisions rather than just running and gunning around every corner. Provided you actually retreat when you're disadvantaged and aren't horrifically outnumbered you can keep yourself alive a good while, still killing people and having fun.

My only gripe with the pace of combat currently is that the movement pace (not speed) sometimes feels like it's disproportionately quick. Things like prone is pretty much instantaneous, as is the transition from crouch to standing, you can turn 180 degree and jump over a wall in a fraction of a second, and I think that makes a lot of CQC seem a bit spammy. There are artificial things like you can't fire after jumping and the big deviation when prone but the way players move still feels very jumpy. I liked the slowed rate of acceleration they did for the newest version, that did a bit to alleviate the problem.

For me anyway PR is pretty much the perfect balance between FPS and sim. You still get a lot of the instant gratification of a regular shooter, but you really have to work for it ;)

I would love to see PR2 tread that same line.

Built around the C4 engine it should be very moddable.

Would a percentage towards alpha/beta be allowed?

Try pre-alpha. I think if there was an alpha we might have heard something about it at least.

Or maybe not? Who knows ;)

Please no. This isn't COD or BC:2

As for faster games besides the above mentioned two, try battlefield 3 when it comes out.

They posted at the start of 2009 they we in pre-production its been 2 years! Have you nothing to show but the sad game which is PR ARMA 2 as your big hit to PR 1? Why did you not throw the full force of the reality mod team behind PR 2? Do you doubt a full game would not only rejuvenate the game but bring in a new player base as well?

User warned for disrespect towards the PR team. -Spec

I am in the same boat as Jonathan. I do feel the same. For me, you either have games that are too quick paced like Black Ops or too slow like PR. For me, Black Ops is too fast and arcade, while PR is great in it's game play but I hate the slowness of it. I am in the minority that wishes for something faster than PR.. but more realistic than Black Ops.

PR is still the best choice of what's out there for me. I've been playing it since Jun 2007 at least, and it's the best I can find for me.

Locking.

EasyAlpha, try not telling the Dev team what to do, I don't think you're in the position to judge internal matters. You should also work on your tone towards the Dev team. Since this is the first time, I'll make it a warning. Don't let that happen again, or it will be a ban.
