Video memory problems

Post by ZonexNL »

Hello,

There's a problem with my video memory according to my PC. Before the last PR update, I was able to run PR on medium to high settings without any real problems, and I was and still am able to run Battlefield 2 on the highest settings, but since the latest update I can only play on the lowest of the lowest because else my game crashes during loading with a video memory error. Why is this happening and what is preventing me from playing on high settings?

Thanks in advance.

Might be because you haven't cleaned up your shaders?

C:\Users\*YOU*\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

delete all folders in there found then start the game edit your video settings and let ot optimize shaders again.
You might want to delete logo cache folder too

C:\Users\*YOU*\Documents\Battlefield 2\LogoCache

Note that this is folders location for Vista/Win7 for XP

C:\Documents and Settings\*YOU*\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Well, I did that, and I also did that quite a long time ago, but still I can't play it on any higher quality.

My computer specs are:

Pentium Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz which is performance rated at 29.198 GHz
2gb RAM
Windows 7 ultimate edition service pack 1
Video card: ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series

All on High - medium, except Texture & texture filtering - on Low

If that doesnt help, then your PC needs new Vid. Card.

Thats not really a top level hardware and PR is kinda demanding on all parts of system. You CPU is quite fine but graphic card might be bottleneck here. You said you have win7 but not which one ( 32 or 64 bit ) and how much VRAM has your VGA?

You might try this too: Start a game, login, then before joining a server, do ALT+TAB, start task manager and find bf2.exe in process list, right click on it and click on Affinity. Now in dialog box uncheck one of the cores. Back to game and try joining a server.

Also check in your mainboard bios if intel power saving features are disabled, that causes problems sometims.

Can you catch that error you get to screenshot and post it here? Its weird I never saw that. Its not impossible it might be driver level issue or graphic card malfunction. Try testing with different drivers and see where it gets you. Check your card for overheating too. Test it with apps like 3d mark.
