Iron Eagle and other rare maps
Why doesn't anyone like playing Iron Eagle? I played it once with 8 people and it was epic and beautiful.
So many nooks and crannies to fight in.
Or the Siege at Ochamira?
Why is the US Muttrah Server 24/7 so popular? Or Kashan?
I think I've tired myself enough out of the Insurgency maps that I am kind of looking forward to BF3.

Re: Iron Eagle and other rare maps
because its kinda stupid for infantry with the wrong flag layout, and its almost always the bad one, i love it apart from the mekerva taking damage everywhere and loosing so much health that it gets killed by one TOW (still i play inf on it almost always)

There is only one unforgivable lie That is the lie that says, This is the end, you are the conqueror, you have achieved it and now all that remains is to build walls higher and shelter behind them. Now, the lie says, the world is safe.? The Great Khan.

Re: Iron Eagle and other rare maps
What IE needs is more flags, and/or more light transport vehicles in my mind. It's just about 4km from Bijar to Alkomin, both these flags need inf in order for somebody to hold them. When transport starts to come short you have a huge problem on this map. On other maps you can usualy walk from one flag to the next, where the only exeption I can come up with right now is from SV to NO in Kashan.
I remember once having to walk from Alkomin to radar station, it took forever. Having to walk all the way to Bijar would be an even bigger pain.
Flag layout is coverd in this thread.

Re: Iron Eagle and other rare maps
If your friendly vehicles are noobs and your forces lost all of them.
You can image this: Lots of Inf-man walk to next flag (when there is bad flag layou, they will be mad)in iron eagle. It seems take a ceuntry to get the next flag.
I believe such map like iron eagle is great! But we need nice players if we want play it.

All you need is good APC squad with mumble or even mec inf squad.

Re: Iron Eagle and other rare maps
Let's emphasize the latter, rarely are the inf squads that want to go mech. In a SL's mind it might seem chaotic to manage his inf squad + an apc support, not to mention the mesh of comms in VOIP. I'll go even further and add that most experient SLs are used in dealing with additional inf members and organizing them by fireteams (thanks to 128 SISU) than taking this mech approach.Tarranauha200 wrote:All you need is good APC squad with mumble or even mec inf squad.
I never lead a Mech Inf squad before, but I'm almost sure that's the main reason that a lot of SLs don't take the apcs. Myself can't wait for that to happen though, it would be nice to add that experience under my belt.

I love mechanized inf. I don't do it because practically every server has an asset rule of some sort.

Re: Iron Eagle and other rare maps
Tried it twice on PRTA half killed the server both times.
Agree it's a lovely map, it relies hugely on choppers if they're down it's no fun. Gets annoying that so many players don't want the more technical maps or layers the moment it's not something mainstream guys leave.
It has issues with IDF BH getting damage on rough landing and blleding to death, also the Merkeva seems to be a little low on armour for such a tough RL tank.
Mechinf is fine on most servers - on PRTA np anyway.

If there's one map that's underplayed, it's Shijia Valley. It's one of Project Reality's greatest maps in my opinion, and I rarely see it on any other server than TacticalGamer and Heros.

That's due to its unattended performance issues.

Does that many people really have issues with the map?

Yes. Rubber banding is common for the entire match regardless of layer, as are random crashes at all stages of play.

That's very sad, as the map itself is great.dtacs wrote:Yes. Rubber banding is common for the entire match regardless of layer, as are random crashes at all stages of play.

ploddits half may or may not be 10 playersPLODDITHANLEY wrote:Tried it twice on PRTA half killed the server both times.
if the mekerva and blackhawks were fixed, it would be the best map ever, with some slight flag layout changes

Ochamchira is a great infantry map. I've had the most amazing firefights in the warehouses, silos and the train wreck.
There is plenty of cover and flanking opportunities are endless.
Even the most well defended warehouse has atleast 4-5 entrances.

Hasn't Ochamchira been removed now?TheComedian wrote:Ochamchira is a great infantry map. I've had the most amazing firefights in the warehouses, silos and the train wreck.

The mapmaker IronTaxi stated that it was an 'experiment'. Only final products should be put in the game, not testbeds.
A T-62, BMP-1 or making the cargo ship a feature will not change the inherent flaws that were overlooked during initial design. Although IronTaxi has been uninvolved in PR for some time, its obvious his original brainchild has been totally changed: case in point the 'defending team' is now instructed to leave docks and attack Village. I stand by my original comments, the map has been edited cosmetically to breaking points and meets requirements for removal.

Remember we're technically in a 'beta' all the time, PR isn't 'finished'.Only final products should be put in the game, not testbeds.
(Not disagreeing with your other statements regarding the map, though. Haven't played it much tbh, I know it's excellent in the 8v8 layer for seeding/fun, but I never really got to play it on a full server)
