No recoil in tanks

Post by spitfir3 »

This may sound crazy but i don't think tanks (some) have any recoil. I was watching this documentary on UKTV History called Fighting The War - it's about the UK forces in Iraq. In one of the episodes they showed a camera view which was one the er... muzzle thingy of a Challenger 2 tank. Anyway he turned it round and fired a he round into a building but i noticed there was no big recoil like there's in BF1942 etc.

You probabaly already know this... but i thought of it when i was in the shower lol and thought that i might aswell post it on here ;)

thought of it in the shower? fair enough....
But yes i would agree with you there, by firing a round starboard wont send your tank into a 45 degree pitch thats certain. Thank god for hydraulics!

dont the abrams have some kind of stablizing system so they can fire while moving? because i doubt there would be recoil if they are firing while moving.

All tanks do, you could drive over the roughest terrain and still have a level scope.

I am not sure which part of this thread you are referring to? Artillery does not have stabilised guns systems to fire on the move. If you mean pneumatic suspension and recuperators to dampen the recoil, then yes they do.
