To what extend am i allowed to use PR for other things
I'm not sure if this is the best place to post but Hey at least people will read it here.
I run a small film group and we mostly make action films for fun and i've been using PR gun sounds for most of my guns shots.
such as in this
Ice cold and fire - YouTube
(i used the PR MP5 and the PPSH and the shotgun cocking sound. All pistols sounds are sourced from else My Friend complains that all PR pistol sounds sound the same)
Now sounds i reckon isn't a big deal. As if i actually bothered to go and record some i'd get more or less the same stuff as PR does or if i do some searching for realistic gun sounds i'd find something pretty similar.
Also there are countless videos out there that just use counter strike gun sounds and i doubt they asked permission first.
I could use them but they are unrealistic so nah..
But i've been thinking about using PR's models for 3D stuff.
For those who aren't familiar with the BF2 editor you can use in game controls to move your character/ vehicle while keeping the camera in place. Which is perfect as all i need to do is match the camera angle with my real world camera. Remove the background from the BF2 editor and i'm away and filming without having to build a full sized tank prop.
I thought probably pays to ask if i can do this before doing it.
As the PR models are amazingly detailed and are perfect for what i have in mind.
Also can anyone tell me how i can open the PR models in the editor. I can't seem to find them.
Also it would be nice to use footage straight from the editor instead of having to find shoot at the ocean or some constant background in game and then tediously remove the background using colour key on adobe aftereffects.
Such as in this video
First person sniper - YouTube
(i had to shoot into the sea at Gaza beach for this as you can tell from the sea sounds)
Saves the really difficult task of actually making a first person rig.
made harder by the fact that we don't actually own a bolt action sniper prop.
It would be much nicer if i could just work with footage like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT9Bvfgw ... re=related
For all my first person shots if need be.
So yeah. I'd really appreciate it if i'm allowed to use some of this amazing work for other purposes.
Thanks

you gotta ask the people who made the stuff individually because it belongs to them first and the mod second.
They have been very obliging to me in the past when i asked to borrow something. Go and find out who made what.

I found your video very impressive!
If you intend to use any models/sounds etc. created by the Project Reality team, you should ask the relevant DEV first. Their models/sounds are, as far as I'm aware, copyrighted. Ask them, and I'm sure they won't disappoint

As for the ability to film using that video like chuc, just following the tutorials to set up a PR_edit folder should get you pretty much everything you need, and then you just enter soldier view once you've put the relevant kit in a config file somewhere.
I'm sorry that the above is really obtuse, but in short I'm saying it's possible and not particularly hard, but you'll need to do some digging/reading on realitymod.

PM a red tag DEV, however due to the nature of some of PR's 3d and sound effects I'm not hopeful that you would get much access e.g. the sound effects recorded at Bovington are highly prized by the PR team.

So far all i've used were the WAV files out of the BF2 PR folder.

Re: To what extend am i allowed to use PR for other things
Just a quick note this is the kinda thing i intend to do with PR 3D models (obviously in a better context)
World's smallest tank - YouTube
I used the vBF2 T-90 for this.
The description is there just to see how many people will actually fall for it.
Done on my **** camera years ago.

PM [R-DEV]Ancientman with what you'd like to do. Make sure it's as accurate as possible detailing what you intend to use. We don't really have time to chase people all over YouTube due to copyright or defending the rights of parties who have graciously let us use their sounds/models/assets in PR, but we will if we have to, and have. We don't enjoy it though, as it makes us look dickish so strive to avoid it. We ARE approachable, as anyone who has PM'd me personally on similar things can attest.
In some cases, we may have to approach 3rd parties, who may not always be so willing. It's professional curtesy.

Well i got the Ok from [R-DEV]Ancientman so long as i mention PR and the Website in the credits and as long as it's internet based it's fine.
You guys are great thanks for everything.
Currently all of our work is published on our facebook page.

We do have a youtube channel
acidbladestudios's Channel - YouTube
But all the stuff on the youtube channel is just re-uploads of stuff from the facebook page.
Subscribe like to them if you want. It really helps.
We'll put more stuff up soon. The group is kinda in the doldrums right now due to the AS exams.
But my friend has got a sci-fi action short planned,
I've got a Action Cop guy who's lost his family and takes revenge while trying to save the world.
Plus my other friend wants to do this deal gone bad video.
And we're just getting started.
We look forward to seeing what we come up with.

THe BF2 gun sounds were done by [R-DEV]sofad and [R-DEV]Jaymz (mostly sofad though I think), so they are the ones you will have to ask permission of. I don't see it being a problem though as long as you credit your sources.
