Re: Monetization of Project Reality Videos on Youtube
Youtube monatization involves youtube puting ads onto the video and next to them. The poster of the video would then get paid if someone clicks on these ads. Its a program called google adsense.

Re: Monetization of Project Reality Videos on Youtube
That isn't monetization, its using a platform with the medium being Youtube and the subject being PR. Regardless of the subject, you're allowed to do it from what I can gather.
Whether or not anyone bothers to actually click the ads on your videos is another thing. I've never clicked an Adsense ad.

From the site "Without the appropriate license from the publisher, use of video game or software user interface must be minimal, or the associated commentary must provide instructional or educational value. Videos simply showing a user playing a video game or the use of software for extended periods of time will not be accepted for monetization."
Most companies are totally fine with it,(eg Bohemia Interactive) as the profit margins are quite small. I am just making sure that I have permission.

Interesting. I'd like to know what exactly constitutes a gameplay video as educational.

I had an email about this a few weeks ago. It seems that once you have a few vids and a few hits on your channel, youtube offers the option to put ads in the video.
I figured it wouldn't be worth anything and would just frustrate people. (I hate adverts on the net).
My 2 pence, cheers, Murkey.

The guy who film one of his kids biting the other kids finger, The "charlie bit my finger" video has so far made ?100,000+ from this scheme. He is using the money to pay for private education for his 2 kids. With 388,000,000 views. WHo knows when a simple clip of your kids will make you some money. Even the guy who did a auto tune remix of the short clip has over 39,000,000 views. Need alot of views to make any cash. Its the new get rich slow scheme.
Its just another way for people to make money, bundeling clips to increase views to make money. At least this guy is asking permission first.

Surely you'd need EA/Dice's permission anyway, as this is still only a mod for BF2? I don't know to be frank.

Look.. there are literally hundreds of people on Youtube making a living of posting videos, anything from family vlogs to gaming videos. Like this guy whom I endorse with all my heart, btw
Monetizising your youtube videos with ads is one thing and there are many ways of doing that, getting Youtube-partnership is another. Partnership requires a relatively big and steady subscriber base and regular output of content, and it means that you're basically working for Youtube (=Google) as a content creator. Btw, I've heard rumours of dbzao or muitocomplicado on Youtube getting partnered, not sure though so don't quote me on that.
There are dozens of gaming channels on YT and I don't think any of them pay any revenue to the big companies, on the contrary some of them get paid for endorsing and promoting certain games.

I doubt that

DB's videos are exactly that, extended periods of him playing PR
And, there are ads on his videos, so whether he is partnered or not there is still some sort of monetization going on.
p.p.s I've been offered having ads on my videos too on YT after my silly Cliffs of Dover 'gun-cam' video got 8k hits in two days, but I declined.

Most likely.
But I doubt youtube will accept regular gameplay videos. However, if you make some sort of DEV-backed Official Training Manual videos, or something like that, then possibly they would become more interested.

Re: Monetization of Project Reality Videos on Youtube
Using gameplay for commercial purposes is legal if the person making them owns the rights to the game, or has permission from the owner of the rights. A lot of big companies don't bother to search for people violating this so that's why you see so many Youtube partners with ads in gameplay videos of CoD and the like. I don't think that EA will do anything unless you're literally sticking it in their faces.
As for mods for games, I'm not sure how that works out. If the PR Dev's have copyrighted their material (which I'm sure they have) then I would guess that you'd need their permission to monetize. Even if you don't, it's always nice to ask and respect the developer's wishes.

I was offered monetization for PR videos on Youtube after reaching a certain ammount of views but it says specifically you cannot for video games because it is copyrighted.
Also, if you included music that's a no-no also.
All you can monetize is basically you talking and comedy sketches I guess.

Re: Monetization of Project Reality Videos on Youtube
I don't think you would need DICE's permission as it is a total overhaul mod. Anyway youtube can decide that. I would please just like a yes or no from a PR DEV . I have seen DB's videos with ads and i don't know if he got DICE's permission, so i think for mods its just the mods creators that you need to ask.
