Remove Firebase explosion animation.

Situation

When a firebase/emplacement is destroyed by knifing, incendiary or simply being unbuilt for a certain length of time, it explodes violently sending dust significantly high into the air (roughly two stories), often giving the firebase position away and alerting nearby enemies, ruining a potentially good firebase location.

Problem

This is unrealistic for the following reasons:
  • A simple disabling of an OP would include destroying equipment and emplacements, for gameplay's sake this would literally mean destroying the radio and tipping over the sandbags, not causing so much dirt and dust to fly around.
This is a gameplay issue for the following reasons:
  • When firebases are placed in a bugged location, they must be consistently built otherwise they will explode until they are replaced elsewhere. On numerous occasions my firebases have had this bug, and are constantly getting rebuilt and then exploding within the space of a few seconds, causing the explosion animation (and very loud sound) to initiate multiple times. On the flipside, I have seen poor squads be ambushed or found out due to the dust being visible from a long way off, simply because one squad member wasn't fast enough with his shovel.
Solution

Ideally, remove the entire animation so the firebase immediately changes state. Although unrealistic, the current animation does not cover up this instant transformation from built to un-built state so no subtraction would be made to the immersion factor.

Another alternative is to reduce the current animation by some 50%, so the explosion only occurs within a hemispherical radius of the firebase's diameter, instead of going up to some 10ft away.

maybe it gets degraded quickly?

or maybe remove the explosion and just make it explode without harm

I agree completely. I see no harm in removing it, heck, when you destroy other emplacements with inciendiaries there is no animation. So why not the same for the FOB?

i agree.
but we should still have two kind of fobs.
one is that we have now and second one would be smaller what you can place inside the buildings(occupying the building)
so then you should not place that bigger fob on bugged/small places,instead use smaller fob.

Then i would use the smaller fot everywhere because its harder to spot.

If there would be two firebases, I guess you wouldn't be able to set up HMGs, Foxholes, AAs etc etc around it.

The biggest problem is that sometimes I would not know if the radio has been stabbed once already or not; and I get blown up after stabbing...

Wasted patches and time for medic...for no reason(does your radio blow up violently and damage you enough to require a bunch of bandages???). I also do not see how I would be bleeding after tipping over a few sandbags unless the entire roof fell on me...

yeah this is the worst about it.

but i think its not that easy because, if you destroy it with High Explosives, the explosion is needed. and i think we cant have different animations for different methods of "unbuilding".
perhaps a slower animation, sound and dustcloud would be a good middle.

C4 blast would take care of the explosion animation. And besides, when would you ever blow up a FOB with an engineer kit? Too rare to be taken into account IMO.

This might actually be a brilliant idea. Make the spade have a right-mouse button function that can 'undig' fortifications. This would resemble having to make work out of destroying an enemy's base; moving sandbags etc.
Instead of simply sprinting in and knifing it.

Would prevent FOB ninjas and encourages teamwork if it'd take half a minute to 'dig down' a FOB.

maybe instead of exploding, the base of it gets disquised by a brown smoke clowd so people can dig it safely and it wont be that visible.

It is realism because otherwise there will have to be a model of pile of dirt dug up from shovels. XD

Throwing all the dirt into the sky and let the wind take them away seem to be the more realistic approach.

Also prevents people from ninja-building TOW offensively.
