Moniter Help

Post by Drop_Deadx »

Today I cleaned my moniter screen with windex like I've been doing for the past year and all of a sudden the screen turned half purple, and half normal, is this permanently broke or can it be fixed and go away?

You can check a few things before you call it bricked.
Check and replace if possible your cable, try switching to another output / DVI - VGA - HDMI if you have it on graphic card, replace graphic card and then see what your getting. In some cases it might be faulty PSU ( but rarely ) broken pins on cable / monitor, faulty cable...
If you have a spare monitor check it on same output and see if produces the same.

If none of the above helps, its gone mate / might be fixable but not sure if its worthy. You got some vertical lines too on screen, is this camera only or is this permanent on your monitor too?

Tried that, it happened right after I cleaned it, and no the lines are the camera the other half is like nothing ever happened.

If it's not the cord, then I doubt it's fixable.
Before you clean another screen, you should know that it's bad to use Windex or other glass cleaning agents on an lcd screen. Just use a damp cloth (not paper towels!) and wipe the screen in one direction. If you can't get the screen completely clean then you can use a 50/50 mix of isopropyl and water.

other than actual screen cleaning liquids, just use a moist cloth. i'm pretty sure windex is no good for computer monitors. recommend you get a nice microfibre cloth for that purpose.

As Bringerof said, never use alkaline or vinegar based cleans on a screen, a slightly moist lint free cloth and clean from side to side and top to bottom only.
